SWEEP?!!! WHAT THE F---? YOU DONT KNOW WHAT A 'TRAP' IS! DUDE, LISTEN TO BRETT. IN ABSOLUTELY NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM WILL YOU EVER KNOW WHAT YOURE DOING STARTING THAT HIGH. I DONT CARE IF I MET YOU AND YOU HAD BEEN 'SWEEPING' FOR 10 YEARS! W/O ANY PRIOR EXPERIENCE IN CABLE TV, I WOULD LAUGH. DO EVERYONE (INCLUDING YOU) A HUMONGOUS FAVOR AND DO SOMETHING LIKE INSTALLS. WORK YOUR WAY UP. THEN YOU MIGHT ACTUALLY EARN THE 'MOST MONEY'. DONT TRY TO COME INTO THIS THINKING RAPE AND PILAGE. ITS THE CURRENT AND FUTURE HACKS LIKE YOU THAT HAVE DRIVEN THIS BUISNESS IN THE DIRT! HOW WOULD YOU FEEL ABOUT SOMEONE JUMPING INTO YOUR PHONE JOB 10 YEARS AFTER YOU WERE THERE, GETTING PAID THE SAME MONEY, W/O 1/MILLIONTH THE KNOWLEDGE?! YOU WOULD SAY THE EXACT THINGS I AM RIGHT NOW. ANYBODY, AND I MEAN ANYBODY THAT ENCOURAGES YOU TO START IN A FIELD LIKE SWEEP FROM THE GET GO, WANTS 2 THINGS: A-TO SUCK EVERY PENNY AWAY FROM YOU AS POSSIBLE, AND 2-TO HAVE A SCAPEGOAT.

Yep I think Splicer4life hit that one right on the head. Nothing and I mean nothing worse than some f@cking peice of shit sweeper with 1 month under his belt coming up to me and saying your runs fucked up when the little bastard has no idea what a coring tool even looks like. Apache find a catv company tell em you got line exp. and can climb and learn the business the right way. Like splicer said your really not even qualified to do drops yet never mind sweep. Learn the right way.

A-MEN! sweep is not the place to start! start at the bottom(drops) and work up!you thin will know what traps, and other names are. thin you can do constrution and learn to read the prints, and how to handle the coax. then you learn to spliceand fine tune your print reading. then at last you may be able to start to learn how to sweep. dont try to fly a spaceship without flying a small plane, it would be about the same. I started as a line-man and worked my way up to sweep. i then found i like splicing better. I still sweep if the $ are right. so do your self a faver and start as a line man first. have a safe day every one

Thanks everyone for all the help! I have to much integrity to be a hack, I take my work seriously and with pride. I will only make the industry better, whatever road I take. Good luck to all.

Just getting back on after another productive week, and I see CablesMyLife had another one of his lame comebacks for me. Listen, asshole, I have given you every opportunity to resolve this like a man, but you insist on acting like a sneaky little weasel. You still do not have the balls to say who you are, which in itself tends to destroy the credibility of anything you have to say, and I gave you my number, but you still haven't called to arrange anything, so I'll just write you off as another jackass who I probably offended by running off or telling you like it was, and you couldn't handle it. I have enough people that have come on here and stood behind my work that shows your nothing but a scared little wanna be, so do yourself a favor and just leave my name out of your mouth. As far as Protel goes, especially you Ben, YES, you do come on here and try to defame ex-employees. Just go into unmoderated or even contract positions available and there are plenty of postings where you have tried to lable me as a druggie. Fact is, you have never seen me do drugs or even be under the influence of drugs. Mike tried to pull a random test on me, on a Monday no less, and it came back clean. I couldn't have altered it, because I was ordered to be at the clinic within one hour, which I did, and these clinics have ways of detecting altered drug screens, so why do you persist with your bullshit? Your a fucking lame ass who is trying to swing off of Mike's nutsack to gain his favor. I am so sick of hearing your silly bullshit. You know absolutely nothing about this industry. Jesus, you were recruited from a Lexus dealership, with no knowledge of cable at all, to be a salesmen for Protel. How in the hell does that qualify you to assess anything about this industry? Just stick to what you know and try to learn something productive. Protel has only been in the construction phase of cable for 2 years now, and I was one of the first to suffer from their ignorance of how things are supposed to run, but I see others have posted since, that have had the screws put to them. Maybe they will learn and grow into a prosperous company or maybe they will continue stepping on the guys who are making them, I don't know and really don't care. Just quit with the fucking drug bullshit and accusations that you can not substantiate. Hello to everyone else and I hope you all had a great week. I know I did. Oh, and Terry, I am really looking forward to that trip. What do you think, about three weeks or so? "TOP HOOK" Great name for a boat owned by a cable dawg. I've always wanted to start a bar and name it "The Hook and Ladder" Be a traveling bar for the big jobs, where all the dawgs could go for a drink at the end of the day and tell war stories.

You said it best, Doug. I can say one thing, things have toned WAY down over the last 10 years. I remember some linemen, out in Cali., that would do a big rail of crank and down a pint of liquor, at 5:30a.m., then go out and work 14 hours burning a couple rolls of strand in some of the most God awful easements there was. Never seen one hurt , except the usual bullshit, and they never whined a bit about how tough it was. Like I said, you summed it up best, bro.

I think that's what we should all do, get together smoke a fatty and bring old Apache here out for a day on the flatbed. Bet he's never seen anything like it in his days at the tel co. Good luck Apache, be smart learn the ropes and you'll be fine. But cable is more than a bunch of druggie maggots making good money, it's come a long way in ten years and it's alot harder than any of the other line industries.
