What did they do, change G.O. 95 rules on gaurd arms? When I did line work in Cali., it was single, unless you were on a "T" lead or dead-end, in which case you had to place doubles.

To set the record straight, I NEVER intended to slam Richard Burton. Worked for the man for a good year. Never had a bad check, money was ALWAYS right, and Richard is a decent person. Cold-spliced sh-t-loads and miles of cable for Bama-Tech in Port Arthur, and only complaint I heard was a leg spliced in wrong at a certain Amp location. Can happen to any-one. Wasn't slammin' you, Richard. Saw your posting and decided to give you sh-t. Do know I will be calling you, as that is the decent thing to do. Have a nice day. Now, on to another subject. I totally agree that linemen get a bad rap as far as QC goes. Bottom line is this... a splicer is responsible for the finished product of any pole/location which contains ANY piece of equipment from bug-nut to bug-nut. It is aggravating to go back after cable is spliced and see hammered dogsh-t. As a lineman first for 3-4 years(and when splicing is slow}, after 10+ years splicing, cable crews have never come and complained to me about messing up their work. And that's how it should be. Problem is, the industry needs people, and the end result is 3-week tappers are sent to splice sh-t they have no business touching. I respect a good cable crew, and I respect a good splicer. I respect everyone. To all a good day, and have a money-makin' week.

Q.C. can be an oxymoron if the quality control is done by people with -O- experience in cable.I've seen that done to meet a contract requirement. That is to have someone out in the feild everyday doing q.c. That came back to bite all of us in the ass. Guys that you would have thought you could trust hacked away, and q.c. was not catching the bad splicing because he didn't know what he was looking at.(just one example of bad managment)I also think some retainage is a must because we all know a good splicer with a bad attitude can quit and leave you with a mess. Cap it at $1000.00 though.

Very true, Frdy wl... We have an "administrative/field engineer(QC man) with all new splicing tool" type person. Basically a secretary. 'Magine that!

I agree, QC is a weak link. A lot of primes try to wait until everything is done and half the crews are gone are different. I worked in Indy and Comcast would bank cleanup until they ran out of materials or something and would hand over a stack rather than pay down time. I was required to make time to go back on the hour to help fix gigs over a year old. I had one that said "Old tap" and sure enough when I got there an old tap was lying 3 feet from the ped on the ground, for over a year, guess QC baby was too good to pick it up .When the sent me to clean 15 year old trash out of a ped I told them what they could do.In KC we had our warehouse guy(who didn't know splicing)go behind us with a digital camera so we could prove what it looked like before we turned it over to the techs. You could zoom in or lighten it right on the PC. Saved our asses a lot of stupid gigs. Those who can should look into it.
