3 Days now of "bucket or hooks?" Both have a place. Some of us ol'farts remember when how well you could hook'em determined whether you had a job or not... it just ain't so no more guys! It's hard to break that old habit of using your `buck'knife on those center conductors too, huh? Look around ya ol'dawgs....the times they are a changing! be safe ya'll.

simply incredible...the whole matter of "buckets or hooks", is not the issue on this topic. the issue is that HOOKS are a requirement of our chosen professions(line-men, splicers, sweep techs). if you cant/wont climb then you have no buisness in this buisness. said it b4, i have a bucket. i use the bucket as often as possible. but there comes a time, sooner or later, that the bucket is not practical. a ladder is not practical. the only solution is to hook it. and when that time comes, for some, they wuss out and throw it to somebody who CAN/WILL climb. thats what the topic is about. if you have a bucket and your cutting, and the bucket goes down, and you cant get to the next location(which positively, absolutely HAS to be cut to get the run back on), and nobody else is around to do it for you, what are you gonna do? leave the run down untill your bucket gets fixed? or are you gonna hook it to get the customers back on? even if the location has to be 'temp'd' in, and you gotta go back the next day to fix it when the bucket is fixed, at least you had the dedication it took to get them back on. i DO remember the times past when getting ANY field work depended on ones ability to hook a pole. times may have changed, but the job requirement hasnt.

There's life out side of cable?, that's a joke right, you know it's not so much the hook thing that bothers me it's pawning your work load off on some one else that bothers me, I can't think of any thing worse than grabbin all the gravy and throwing the work into some one elses lap, there's nothing that pisses me off more, and in this business not doing your hook poles is the source of it,well shit I guess I am pissed about all those pussy non climbin f*cks out there!!, but enough said, Have an early day tomorrow, systems go above 330??

SplicerLife4me--I don't always agree with you, but this time you drove the "J" hook home(nail on the head so to speak). There is a time when hooks are needed, so be ready, and be skillful enough to use them "without fear". In other words, leave the ladder on the truck sometime and keep your hooks sharp. You never know when you might have to use the method that will last as long as wooden poles exist. Hooks are cool, and you should be proud to have the skill and the "balls" to climb as high as the job requires.
