I just happen to scan a few our the comments about
the lack of climbing abilities that alot of the new
people have or don't have... But when I was in that
mode years ago there wasn't all this hoopla about the
doing it this way or that, we just hooked the poles
and got the job done... Years later I was in the
position to teach climbing skills to installers and
others, but certain restrictions were placed upon
how and what we were to teach. It seems as though
the administrations of the MSO's were more afraid
of what MIGHT happen if someone fell from a pole
than the pluses of the newly acquired skill that
one might learn and use day to day. Go figure..

We don't need to climb poles, that's what they make buckets for. Besides, you should see the response a sweep tech on hooks leaves behind. How about improper lengths and loops? Ok, you win. When you're old with a bad back and blown out knees I'll still be earning money.

the point is being missed. everone knows that you cant use a bucket for easement, and no one wants to climb streetside stuff. point is, sooner or later we all have that run where a bucket cant go, and a ladder just isnt practical. what ya gonna do? be a wuss and come up with any excuse you can and give that bullshit run to a real pro? or are ya gonna be the pro that you claim to be and take the good w/the bad and climb those poles. i personally take the latter of the two, and deal with it. unfortunately i am also the pro who does the bullshit when that green kid in the shiney new bucket wuss's out. that same kid will still say hes a pro. i am sick and tired of that shit just as much as anyone else. but what are ya gonna do? if you force the morons to climb and they get hurt, then they're screwed, and whoever they were forced by is screwed. lose lose situation. i say lets be done with it and make all runs in cable in this country all u/g and streetside runs! never happen but its a nice dream! lol! if it were to happen, those same guys would come up with a new excuse for not doing their work. how about this...if someone cant/wont climb(and because of that they cant get the work completed which violates the contract, however we all know circumstances do arise and i would hope you all already have taken thatinto consideration), and pushes it off on someone who does climb and completes the work, then the one who cant/wont should have to pay the one who could, 1/2 of all monies due for that run/location? either they will learn how to climb and do the work that their profession requires of them, or they will lose so much money that they quit cable and thus, no more excuses, no more wussing out. any monkey can learn how to push a button and make a boom go up and down. but it takes true dedication to learn and refine the skills that hooking a pole requires. if your not willing to dedicate yourself to your chosen profession, then do us all a favor...GET THE HELL OUT OF THE BUISNESS! buckets are great, got one myself, but only after i hooked and laddered poles everyday my first 16 years in the buisness. and guess what? I STILL HOOK POLES! i have to, its part of the job.

by the way flin, i am old and my knees arent blown out. 50 bucks says i can splice more taps/splitters on hooks than you can in a bucket. needless to say if input loops are required you would have the advantage provided all poles are reachable by bucket. hell, how about those poles that the standard 28-32 footers cant reach? what you gonna do? jump up? lol! hell no! your gonna wuss out and give it to someone that will get the job done 1 way or another. and with your attitude, i think id tell you no.

did wreckout in charleston sc. my personal best day of climbing, i hooked 64 poles. that job i averaged 50-55 poles/day, hooked every flippen pole, every flippen day!( by the way, that doesnt include re-climbing the pole if something was dropped. damn, i hate it when that happens! lmao!
