Well my mother lost the battle last night, or should I say gained a new life with the lord, mom has been battling cancer for the last 5-6 years, 2 months ago she was over to the house cooking food and playing cards, it all happened very quickly, the reason I bring her death up on this site is because she was a cable dog also, she raised 4 boys that all went into cable (2 stayed) and sat there at the table, heard the road stories, the adventures, my father was a catv salesman, back in the years when you made the sale, then you threw on your hooks, climbed the pole and did the install, mom has been around this business her whole life and I'm always going to miss her, I sat there yesterday holding her hand praying that the lord would have mercy and sweep her away, I'd never been in a terminal care unit before and didn't understand the rules, when your ability to take food or drink stops, they stop bringing it to you, they keep your mouth moist with a sponge and keep the morphine dripping, it was hard to look at this person that had been so strong for so many years wilting away before my eyes and at 2:41am she left us, well my hats off to you mom, give Dad a big hug for us I'll always love and miss you.

can anyone tell me why i can't use a stranded center conductor for cable tv

Hawkins, most (if not all) coaxial cable that has a twisted center conductor is not 75 ohm cable. Therefore, if you use it in cascade w/ 75 ohm cable, you create a mismatch of impedence.
