Jerry, I need your opinion on a boat, Its a 93 Kenner 18 ft center console powered by a Johnson 125, motor seems to run real strong. Boat is equipped with a trolling motor, loran, depth-fish finder and radio. Trailor is single axel but is also in good shape, The hull is in perfect condition. Is this a good deal at $6000? I just bought this boat yesterday, compaired to all the rest of the boats I looked at it seemed to be a good deal but I don't know much about them.. Thanks

Good Morning all,Joe I am not familiar with that boat hull, but I will list a few things I would check before buying one.#1 How much would a finance co loan on the boat?#2How much does an insurance co. determine the replacement value,of the boat to be.#3 Don't get in a rush to buy a boat.#4 Compression test the motors powerhead.Drain and pressure test the lower unit, don't forget to rotate the propshaft.#5 Observe the motor and steering for rust and corrosion,#6Check the transom, stand on the back of the motor, sway your weight up and down if the transom moves at all it is on its way out.#7 observe any holes drilled in the transom to have 5200 on them not scilone,as it will let water in.#8 Observe the bottom for any repairs, cracks,or holes, the worst thing you are looking for is cracks that run forward an aft between the chime and the center keel.If it has these cracks, it has bad stringers,if it has a side to side crack, that means a bulkhead has turned loose.#8 now get in the boat and walk on the deck feel for the floor flexing under your feet,if it does, the deck is delaminated, make sure that any screw hole going through the deck also is filled with 5200.#9 see if the person who owned it has kept maintence records, the motor should have a new water pump and thermostats,at least every three years. Also when you run the motor, check your battery voltage to make sure the charging system is working.I'm sure I probably missed something,I've got a boat going out the door this morning and its not 100% complete yet and the wife is on my butt to get moving on it.I'll say other than boat Quality the single most determining factor is the insurance replacement cost evaluation. It sounds to me that you did all right even though I have not seen the boat.I got to run see ya.

The 93 Kenner is a good deal. A boat like that around where I live would go for more$. At least another 1 grand or so. I hope you took it for test run in the water before you bought it? Just checking I have seen it happen.
