As a wife I would love to know if there are any company's out there who don't say "WE HAVE PLENTY OF WORK" to get a man to travel and leave his family. Personally I think it is pretty shitty.

BEING IN CABLE IT SHOULD BE A FAMILY THING. ALWAYS TRY AND FIND A JOB THAT IS GONNA BE THEIR 3-5YRS OR MORE. ME I HAVE ALWAYS BROUGHT MY FAMILY WITH ME.FIRST I WOULD GO THEIR GET A HOUSE AS FAST AS I COULD WITH IN A WEEK AND MOVE MY FAMILY THEIR. IT ALWAYS WORKS OUT THE BEST ESPECIALY FOR THE KIDS. I KNOW THE KIDS ARE MOST IMPORTANT THEY DONT WANT TO SEE YOU GO AWAY ALL THAT TIME. AND I DONT WANT TO LEAVE MY DAUGHTER THATS WHY I BRING MY FAMILY WITH ME.

I appreciate your advice and I will take it to heart. I am just having alot of trouble dealing with companys leading contractors on. Dedicated people willing to make family renovations and the work falling through. It may take a month or it may take two. Nothing is garanteed in this business, I've only been around it for 5 years but that's long enough for me to see that. Yes the kids will always come first! Thanks.

Kim Manley, Regarding the situation with the "promise made promises broken" from contract companies. This has been the "Motto" of "Most" contract companies since I started in this business 24 years ago! Yes, it's wrong! It's unfair! It's down right discusting! What can be done about it? One of my thoughts is some sort of "Cable Teamsters" cable dawgs from around the world "grouping together" to stop them from railroading subcontractors! I personally have lost my third and last "battle" in the subcontracting industry! My wife and I have chosen to get ourselves normal inhouse jobs (still in cable) and "settle" for the "regular pay check" rather than wonder if we're going to get our next check or if the work is going to continue.....etc. Now, I realize this is just one nobody man's opinion BUT, I believe the contractor industry is fixing to get a "slap in the face" from the MSO's that they will not forget! And may never recover from! I personally only know of "ONE" contractor that ever treated us fairly and honestly! A company called CATS owned and operated by Gary Muth! In all the years I subcontracted that is a VERY LOW percentage!!!!!!!! Well, didn't mean to write a book!!!!! Later!

Doug - My account was logged off for a few days, due to a billing error by AOL, but it is all good now. I am in Corpus Christi now and looking for splicers. If you know anyone who is looking, send them my way. They can drop me an e-mail. Hope things are going well. Take care.

Regarding the (cable union) Idea. So like Lets do it. Its something that has been talked about since I got into this biz but I dont think anyone took the time to start the process. I always said it could work but I think We need to make sure that there are some of the original cable dogs in charge. Wisdom breeds success.
