gary vest-dude, look at your last posting b4 mine. you know, the one where you yak about it should go in a book its so fucking perfect, you know, the part about sliding out on bell? what kind of book are you talking about? a book on how NOT to do cable?... take great offense if you want, me tho, i say fuck 'em. anybody wants to call me a hack on the web is welcome to their opinion. i know the truth...thats all that matters. i dont need to go trying to glorify myself. yes i can scroll right past, but visitors dont. unfortunately we ARE associated because of this forum. therefore, try thinking of others instead of your self. what you say, does, down the line somehow get reflected on the industry as a whole.

Well there's so much love here today. Let me start by saying that I do not know Gary Vest but what he says sounds ligate and what I've heard from Doug backs that up. It also sounds like he takes pride in his work by the way he was talking to Terry. You know by the way he wants him to look up at what he's done and how he did what it took to get the job done. Now on the other hand we have some loud mouth asshole who calls himself Splicerlife4me. Well let me first start by saying if I had a choice of lifes it sure wouldn't be splicing but it is the career I chose. But I did and I give it my all. So what the fuck are you Splicerlife4me? Some little prick that's been in the industry for a couple of years who never cuts a corner, who never does anything wrong? You the teachers pet who claps the erasers. Let me tell you I've been a supervisor for 8 yrs and a damn good one and a lot of people will vouch for that. I would take a guy like Gary who seems to do what it takes to get the job done no matter what and takes pride in his work then some sniveling little bastard like you. And I will put up, Splicerlife4me anytime you want. In the cable world theres two kinda guys those who can get the job done NO MATTER WHAT and want-to-be's, I think I have you pretty well figured out Splicerlife4me.

I Like to work with Men who get the job done, especially when the going gets tough.Thankyou Gary for the can-do attitude.I quess you could have done it the taxt book way, you know,STOP EVERYTHING...get a high ranger or some expensive lift... or you could, hook the pole, slide out on bell safely...and jobs complete.Any dogs out there who have never slid out on bell?

And another thing, I would MUCH rather have a man like Gary Vest who is proud of his work than some cheese dick wannabe Lineman who will not even own up to a piece of equipment he spliced or a pole he worked.

terry, if you want osha to ride up on your guys ass when hes 10' out ON bell, and shut you down because you encouraged that type of work, cool. i really have no problems with how you decid to do your job as long as i'm not affected. brett, what happened? you did'nt see the buttons on the right? hey guys, did'nt mean for y'all panties to get bunched up. i'm apologize, all that was meant was i hate people who say they are great and almighty or even imply that, which was done. hence, i posted my 'opinion'. kiss my ass. think what you want. the people that need to know the truth about me do. your on the 'do not need to know' list.

To SL4M: Will you please lay off on Gary V. God you keep invalidating him and then when somone comes and praises his work ethics and standards you give warning about big bad OSHA! I do not know Gary but I do respect someone who rides out on bell. I only know a few who are able to do this. Gary V. Those Freak Brothers still make me laugh. C-ya John

nobody has been 'invalidated' by me johngoodboy. i'm sure g.v. is a fine splicer, but that determination will be made by me AFTER i see for myself. not because he says he can/does this or that. he knows what i am saying and i know what he is saying. so now i'll spell it out for the rest...i am not threatining osha on anyone. they have a nasty habit of doing that themselves. but why invite trouble to your job site by advertising that people are going out on bell (the WRONG way of doing things)? as i posted earlier, no skin off my nose so long as i'm not affected. just dont see the logic in the advertising. don't think bell and osha look at these sites? think again.

Splicerlife4me, I don't encourage riding bell as a daily practice. We use the proper equipment, but once in a great while you have to improvise. If you thinking that I wear panties how about a friendly challenge of "Who has the Balls" Don't forget to bring you're grape nut's.

Mr. Vest, I read the article. As far as fiber optics and the LambdaRouter, I think that we, all of us in the CATV field, need to applaud new technologies, the LRouter being a good case-in-point. These are the things that will keep feeding all of us in the future. The fiber infrastructure has been in place for the telephone companies (and some cablecos) for a lot of years. But telcos have a lot of money invested in plant and gear and are fighting tooth and nail to get a piece of the pie in the broadband areas. Think about it, there is a whole bunch of twisted copper, fed by fiber, already up the poles. With the advent of HFC and RF modems in the CATV area, the telcos scrambled to offer DSL and ADSL, and bought up a mess of cablecos. How many of you have worked for AT&T? I have. I'm sure a lot of you have. My point being that they are worried that their infrastructures are going to be worthless to them in the not so far future unless they can offer more. In the article "Busted On Broadband", the author's point is basically that the telcos are approaching saturation in their fiber backbone. But how many glass pullers and burners are reading this right now? Raise your hand. How many of you out there are waiting for fiber to be delivered and hung right now so you can get back to work? Nod your head. CATV is just beginning to get the fiber networks closer to the homes. The next time you see a fiber crew out there with their mini-rollers, chunks of carpet and twenty-thousand feet laid out in a figure-eight, stop and help layout some of that glass, flag traffic, shake his hand and buy him a cold one later. As far as the future of CATV, the customer needs to be educated so that sales will catch up to production. How many times has a customer asked you what you are doing? I test broadband (sweep, proof, ber...) and I am asked the advantages of RF modem over phone modems all the time by customers. The are astonded by the numbers that I throw out as far as speed and reliabilty. The next time a customer asks you a question about the system, take the time to answer them and tell them to pass it on. Right now upgrading the existing systems is going to keep us busy for a while. I think that we will be upgrading (HFC nodes, bandwidth upgrades w/ retrofits and new-builds) the current systems for a while yet, a couple of years anyway, to provide better digital TV and more interactive TV stuff- people are beginning to trust the cablecos more in these areas. Also RF modems will gain popularity as the customers are educated by word of mouth and the MSOs. The next step is VoIP and more generally just phone service over the HFC systems. VoIP will become more than a novel idea and as soon as cablecos are able to work out powering and reliabilty issues with phone service over HFC, and gain the trust of the customers in this area, we will really have the telcos worried. Moral-of-story: Question-Learn-Apply and above all-stay in CATV! My hat is off to all of you dawgs that bust your hump everyday. Keep up the good work gentlemen- take the good with the bad and rock-out-with-your-****-out!!!!
