Re: Frontier Shutdown

First time that happened to me was in Lake County IL in 1982. Cox was pushing pushing pushing all fall of 81 into Mar of 82. Then one Tuesday the yard was locked so we couldn't get equipment out. Went to the customer service door up front & was told to call a Georgia number. This was before cell phones. I asked to use the Cox office phone & manager said "employees only. You're just a contractor. Be gone."

I went to a payphone & tried calling "person to person, collect." The guy I asked for wasn't in the office, so it was denied. It took until the afternoon to learn that Cox was shutting down for 2 weeks. I took the time to do vehicle maintenance & spring cleaning, also reached out to guys in NJ, TX & CO.

At 2 weeks we were told "probably be another 2 weeks." I made sure the GC I subbed for had put in current invoicing.  Then I flew down to check out the TX job in Ft Worth. When I returned, the GC paid my last invoices & I cashed their check at their bank before telling them they had my 2 week notice.

Years later I learned they didn't restart that project until July.

You don't always get what you expect, but you know what you got when you inspect. Happiness comes from within, some poor souls are just without.
