Paid for motels - hotels - apartments for 1099's for 3 years and was audited by IRS as part of 3 percent of MO. Corporations audited like a dice roll. They considered all those 1099's employee status, went back 3 years, and total cost with fines was $ 102,000.
Took me a couple years to pay back......You cannot file bankruptcy to get out of this as the payroll tax not paid is considered a trust fund.
Ouch - Watched my fish tank freeze that winter for a lack of utilities....
