Good morning gents.
I figured I'd put this out there and pray for some positive return. I'm a young business owner looking to pivot into fiber and or I&R/OSP work. My background is mostly low voltage electrical and networking; as this is what my business has primarily done since 2018. I'm a former ATT FT for 7 years also; and I have contracted for most of the big names as a tech since leaving the Marines 2003. I've recently purchased a bucket truck and have or willing to purchase the needed tools to get into this work... It's into this new work where I need advice and or guidance. I've read most of the forums on here and a few of you have already been a great help; so I appreciate that. Please be clear tho, I'm not a boot or some fly by night guy looking for a quick buck; so please keep that in mind with your reply. Nor am I in a rush or pressed for money... this is what some would call a "growth pivot"
-I do have significant bidding experience on planhub, SAM.org and even on sites like fieldnation and workmarket; but it seems the process here is not set or clear; can someone provide a clear list of "need to knows when bidding" on here I should be on the lookout for?
-I've mostly been solo, but i do scale up as needed based on project size and term; but, how should I interpret "crew" that I see on many of the contract postings here?
-While I've done OSP for ATT, that was nearly 8 years ago; can someone provide a list of 2025 top 25 common terms and acronyms? as I'm seeing a lot of both that are unfamiliar or feel like might be system specific.
-I've only ever did hourly billing, but I've seen various options on here; can someone provide the most common form of compensation in these contract offerings that I should expect; with a 2025 numbers break down??
-where are the snakes and crooks usually hidden, that I should be on the look
