Responsibilities and Duties
Primary Responsibilities:
Competency in prepping and fusion splicing fiber
Competency in splicing large count single fibers or ribbon splicing up to 432 count.
Competency in troubleshooting and accessing the fiber optic enclosure and splice the necessary fibers directly from ladders and bucket trucks
Ability to troubleshoot and repair problems utilizing optical test equipment such as OTDRs, OSAMs, Fiber Identifiers, scopes and proper fiber standards and practices
Handle OSP fiber and prep, troubleshoot and properly create mid-sheath entries
Perform testing and turn-ups of fiber customer drops in both inside and outside plant environment
Qualifications and Skills
Education:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience:
Ability and tolerance to work in all types of weather
Ability to think on feet and look at the bigger fiber network when troubleshooting
Ability to be on call on a rotation basis
Knowledge of live fiber rework and proper broadband CATV based network splicing / troubleshooting
Knowledge of fiber optic theory which includes fiber loss, connector types and the different types of fibers and their applications and uses
Technical Skills:
Ability to read/ create splicing matrix and design drawings
Computer literate with Excel, Adobe, Bentley
Ability to operate a bucket truck/splice trailer combo legally with background checks and DOT physicals
