Job Description

General Purpose
The Fiber Splicer will splice twisted pair fiber cables in indoor/outdoor settings (underground, buried & aerial applications) and perform testing as required. Splicer will create and maintain splicing schematics and diagrams. Splicer will install, remove, maintain, modify, troubleshoot and repair outside plant fiber as well as perform site surveys. Splicer will be required to work during inclement weather and work maintenance hours at the request of the customer to perform high priority circuit / T1 work. Splicer will also be required to work out of town as determined by their supervisor. Splicer will work in a foreman capacity; working directly with customer management personnel to overcome obstacles and provide the highest level of customer satisfaction. Essential Duties/Responsibilities

• Splice twisted pair fiber using either: 710, MS2, scotch lok, amp and other splice connectors
• Count verification of all types of cable; PIC and paper color coded and non-color coded cables
• Construct new telecom facilities and repair/rehab existing telecom facilities to a high quality standard
• Troubleshoot faulty twisted pair fiber and repair as needed
• Handle & splice Hi-Cap circuits / T1’s during cutovers as needed per customer
• Install a variety of buried splice cases (i.e. XAGA, Cold & Close, etc…)
• Install and maintain pressurized closures; both Waffle and Preform
• Work with customers to provide a premium product with a high level of customer service
• Request and receive approval from customers for change order work
• Follow company safety rules, guidelines & regulations
• Perform other duties as required

• Fiber Splicer II – Provide own truck and tools
• Time / Experience dependent on supervisor discretion

Job Qualifications
Experience:
• Fiber splicing experience including modular splicing 710 and/or MS2, scotch loks,
amps, bonding, pedestal prepping, buried closure application & MH racking
• Must be skilled & proficient with PIC color-coded cable and count identification
• Knowledge & proficiency in paper/pulp cable splicing and pair identification a plus
• Must be able to read prints and have familiarity with RUS units and redlines
• Ability to work in underground (confined spaces), buried and aerial environments
• Ability to work sitting down or standing up or in awkward positions for long periods
of time
• Experience working with air pressure is a plus
• Must have valid driver’s license
• Ability to work in a team environment, independently or self-motivate
• Experience with MS Office programs & PDF editing software to provide digital
redlines and invoices
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong organization skills
Structure/Pay
• Compensation is based on a unit structure which pays a percentage of the unit work
performed
• Company provided vehicle, fuel and vehicle maintenance
• Company provided major tools (i.e. splice head, JDSU/TDR test equipment, turn-up
electronics, generators, throw-master, etc.)
• Company provided safety equipment (i.e. hardhat, safety glasses & vest, MH setups,
sump pumps, signs & cones, etc.)
• Employee provides their own minor tools/equipment

Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residency Driver’s License is
required within two weeks of
employment.
• Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and
pass a pre- employment drug screen.
• Must provide basic tools “please see attachment”
