Minimum of 2-3 years experience in OSP construction, reliable, punctual, self motivated, able to pass background check, drug screen and physical, able to read engineered work prints, possess a valid driver's license and be insurable.

Job Description

The Construction Technician is responsible for working in all aspects of OSP construction including aerial, UG and splicing.
1. Transports, places, removes and rearranges poles and cables both copper and fiber optic including buried, aerial and underground. This includes pole sets, pole framing, hardware, cable placing and cable attachments. Makes cable terminations and connections in both single and mass splicing capacities on both new construction and legacy outside plant infrastructure.
2. Places tags on poles and cables.
3. Digs holes, splicing pits, trenches and other similar openings in improved and unimproved surfaces as necessary for construction operations.
4. Reads work prints that indicate where equipment and infrastructure is to be placed.
5. Tests, ventilates and sets work area protection for traffic control, aerial and underground work. Serves, as required, as a member of a permit required confined space entry team (upon meeting training requirements) to meet safety and legal requirements.
6. Places cables of varying size and transmission media in aerial, buried and underground conduit environments.
7. Tests for cable identification and to certify completed work meets customer deliverables.
8. Receives and stores materials and prepares necessary time and production reports. Handles associated supply yard functions.
9. Drives company vehicles of varying size and specialty type. This includes with and without trailers not to exceed 26,000 lbs combined GVWR as required by law unless a licensed CDL driver.
10. Must lift up to 100 lbs of material, tools or equipment.
11. Ascends and descends manhole ladders, step ladders and extension ladders.
12. Operates aerial lift trucks to access aerial plant and infrastructure.
13. Daily work operations require bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, turning and reaching with and without a payload.
14. Performs daily inspections of vehicle, tools, ladders and safety equipment.
15. Understands that company provided ladders and aerial lift trucks have weight limitations as determined by the manufacturer (currently 300 lbs).
16. Documents pre and post construction activities with photos and documentation.
