Job Description
For over sixteen years, Broadband Technical Resources (BTR) has built the reputation as one of the best cable construction companies in the industry. Due to our growth, we're looking for fiber splicers in the Nashville, TN area.
The Fiber Technician position is a mid-level to senior level splicer that can perform both aerial and underground fiber installation work, splice fiber, test fiber, and complete all necessary documentation and has a good working knowledge of aerial and underground rules and regulations. Technician should be well versed in a multitude of fiber optic cables, connectors, and terminating practices and procedures.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Terminate, splice, and install a variety of fiber optic connectors and enclosures including both loose tube fiber and ribbon fiber
• Proficient in using fiber tools and fiber optic test equipment including fusion splicer, power meter and OTDR
• Knowledge of applicable electronic equipment and specialty tools
• Ability to troubleshoot damaged fiber, effectively and efficiently
• Ability to read, understand and update splice documentation and maps as required
• Be available for 7 day / 24 hour stand by periods every 2 weeks
• Climb and use ladders on poles for accessing aerial fiber plant
• Perform aerial construction activities, including but not limited to, installing aerial fiber enclosures, installing fiber storage (snowshoes), and performing cleanup work.
• Perform underground construction activities, including but not limited to, pulling new cable/fiber through conduits, digging up and repairing damaged conduit and underground vaults or pedestals
• Ability to travel and stay overnight within the coverage area
• Basic computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Perform other related duties as required.
• Fiber splicing: 2 years (Preferred)
• Telecommunication: 2 years (Preferred)
• Criminal background check
