Telecom Construction Superintendent (Aerial/Underground)

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

We are currently seeking a candidate with experience in all aspects of telecommunications construction work to train, lead, and develop several construction crews in the San Jose, CA Region. We are open to considering candidates who specialize in Aerial or Underground construction or who have strong proficiency in both.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
(Based upon level of position, not all functions may apply)
• Superintendent shall provide guidance and coordinate the activities of UG and aerial construction crews.
• Seeking a candidate with working knowledge in aerial lift devices, utility lines and poles, trenching, placing duct, pulling cable, and direct bury main-line and drops.
• Knowledge of engineering prints and ability to understand and interpret construction documents as applicable.
• Locate & verify all utilities before construction.
• Keep PM updated on progress of all projects, via excel spreadsheets and/or other company software, as well as any issues that arise.
• Track and report daily production of crews.
• Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely both internally and externally.
• Preplan to ensure that resources are available for the start through the end of construction, including all restoration needs associated with each project.
• Maintain and/or repair our customer's telecommunications facilities.
• At a minimum, the position requires a good working knowledge of telecommunications construction:
o Familiarity with Horizontal Directional Drills.
o Familiarity with placement of equipment and tools.
o Familiarity with aerial cable installations.
o Ability to identify and troubleshoot problems
• Other tasks may be assigned as needed per business needs


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience and Skills):
• Knowledge of equipment, including, but not limited to: a trencher, backhoe, excavators, directional drills, bucket trucks, digger derricks
• Ability to read and understand make-ready drawings and sheets.
• Ability to read and understand all aspect of cable design.
• Supervisor must be knowledgeable with all typical safety procedures and apply them at all times.
• Excellent work ethic.
• Must have good communication skills and a positive attitude.
• The ability to manage and direct multiple construction crews
• Valid US Driver's License.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• The ability to work safely, with or without supervision.
• Work outside in all types of weather.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bilingual in Spanish and English
• Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Smartsheet, Excel, Word, and MS Outlook.
• Commercial Driver’s License
• Flexibility to travel

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is performed most frequently outdoors in weather conditions that vary from below freezing temperatures to heat above 90 degrees, in wet and dry conditions and in rural areas. Employee’s may perform duties around energized and de-energized electric lines and equipment and moving mechanical parts. Work may be performed in confined spaces. Some exposure to odors, gases, dust and dirt may occur. The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud.

Work is heavy and requires exertion of up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Lifting and carrying of 10 to 50 pounds frequently is required. Reaching and lifting overhead is frequent. May spend long periods of time driving and/or riding in line construction vehicles to reach remote areas of the service territory.
