Qualifications

Working knowledge of using various fusion splicing and optical testing equipment including Alcoa, Fujikura, GN Net Test, EXFO, Fitel, Sumitomo. Must possess the knowledge to identify and understand the difference between Multi-mode and Single-mode fibers; CAT 3 and CAT 5; Riser; Fiber optic; PVC, riser rated and plenum cable; Plenum and PVC environments. Ability to climb utility poles, approx. 25' in height, Knowledgeable in the operation of Bucket trucks,

Other Requirements

Willing to travel. Must have at least 1 year of experience in the industry, Familiarity with DOT’s Enforcement and Compliance regulations, Meet all DOT requirements (physical and drug testing), Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at knees and waist, squat and lift 50 lbs. minimum, Ability to work in an outdoor environment during all seasons, Must meet Company minimum driving standards, have a good driving record, and be able to operate company vehicle

Job Description

Duties include:
- Assist and follow instructions of Foreman and/or other technicians
- Planning and Initiating Projects
- Establishing OSHA and Customer Safety Requirements
- Setting Poles
- Maintaining and Repairing Overhead Fiber Optic Facilities
- Installing New Strand and Lashing Fiber
- Installing and Maintaining Down Guys, Overhead Guys, etc.
- Building Risers, Installing Snow Shoes/Slack Coils
- Tree Trimming
- Knowledgeable of reading and understanding prints, maps, and work orders
- Prepare paperwork to track daily production, and accurately as-built completed work on job site documents.
- Responsible for the operation, daily maintenance checks, and inspection of all aerial equipment to ensure working order
- Place strand and dress pole to customer specifications, using assorted small hand and power tools
- Set anchors where required by customer
- Operate chain hoist to add tension to cable and guy wires
- Pull fiber optic cables and other cables into conduit and place onto strand
- Lash cables and splice cases onto strand
- Direct traffic flow in accordance with local D.O.T. guidelines
Will also work in the field with the crews installing manholes, vaults, and completing any work.
- Operating utility construction equipment in a safe and productive manner. Including but not limited to: backhoes, missile drills, trenchers, skid-steer loaders, cranes, digger derricks, bucket trucks, excavators, and crane trucks.
- Maintain a clean worksite
- Operating test equipment and data reporting
- Performing additional maintenance or upgrades on out of season equipment
- Conducting performance checks and regular maintenance
- Splice various types and sizes of fiber optic cable including single mode, multimode, stranded and ribbon.
- Analyzes and troubleshoots basic technical problems or issues
- Reviews, interprets and works with various maps, drawings and blueprints and testing documents.
- Performs daily tests, checks and maintenance of splicing and testing equipment.
- Performs optical continuity and conformance testing
- Makes splicing rearrangements on existing facilities in buried, underground, aerial and building work locations.
