Job Description

Utilities One Inc. is looking for a full-time Fiber Splicer to be responsible for the terminating, splicing, documenting, and testing of all fiber optic cables within Utilities One's fiber-optic networks and their related equipment with the end goal of providing maximum operating efficiency. Also responsible for customer premise installations, including racking, cabling, bonding, and grounding. Coordinate fiber activities with other departments and the Manager of Outside Plant. Perform ring cuts on live fiber without affecting existing services. Perform fiber tests with OTDRs, light source, and meters. Terminates, splices, bonds/grounds, and tests fiber optic equipment to division standards. Provides accurate equipment location, splicing, and terminating records for the fiber database. Assists the Construction and Engineering departments in accepting and turning up the fiber network. Builds bays, racking, jumper ducts, and other network elements needed for the installing of fiber optic equipment and patch and panels. Monitor, communicate, and perform corrective actions to fix problems affecting any fiber or fiber-related equipment. Install demarcation enclosures, switches, and other telecom equipment.

1099 Fiber Splicer Needed.
A Fiber Splicer will perform cable splicing in the air, underground, indoors, and outdoors. In addition, this position requires frequent travel in which the employee would be away from home.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
+ Able to read fiber design prints Identifying individual fiber cables and splice locations to ensure accurate splicing.
+ Able to splice MST and or other Plug and Play FTTH equipment being used in different markets.
+ Ability to prepare cable and set up of all sizes of enclosures.
+ The proper set up of splice trays
+ Ability to perform mid-sheath, ring cut splicing.
+ Testing required, ability to understand and correctly use an OTDR to perform all test requirements.
+ Bi-directional Testing and the use of an EXFO OTDR is required.
+ Troubleshoot and repair problems utilizing test equipment.
+ Works with Project Managers and/or OSP Engineers to perform splicing as directed;
+ Safely operate and use bucket trucks, responsible for daily Maintenance of your provided truck.
+ Self-supervise all operations to ensure that all splicing operations are completed in accordance with customer and design specifications.
+ Must have a smartphone.
+ Reconcile all issued parts and materials daily to ensure accurate material, usage counts.
+ Able to read “As builts” Maps.
5+ years of experience in fiber splicing required
