Job Description

The Horizontal Directional Drill Operator/Locator is responsible for locating and piloting directional drill head for placement of Conduit and/or Communication Cables.

Install new or replacement coax cable by directional drill or hand digging.
Perform construction work such as digging holes, placing poles, laying cable in the ground, unreeling, pulling and stringing wire and cable from pole to pole.
Place fiber cable from central office through conduit or attach pole lines to customer business or distribution points in the loop.
Install, move or remove aerial, underground or building wire/cable, using necessary equipment, poles and hardware per customer and supervisory order.
Move, lift, or pull weights of 100 pounds or more to operate power equipment such as compressors, pumps, blowers, winches and hydraulic equipment such as aerial lifts (buckets), diggers, directional bore rigs, and trenchers. Must be able to lift or move manhole covers or similar items.
Maintain thorough and current proficiency of FCC and performance specifications, and can without supervision, initiate and complete comprehensive testing including all FCC required or recommended tests and measurements.
Responsible for the correct, safe and efficient locating and marking of underground utilities by thoroughly searching for underground plant in an area. Properly mark the location and complete the necessary paperwork.
Complete and supply necessary documentation for daily reporting.
Communicate with customers and other employees to help maintain code and to communicate job status and issues surrounding daily activities.

Qualifications:
Must have 1-3 years’ directional drill experience as a drill operator or locator.
Able to use a utility locator to find existing UG services
Have general knowledge of local and federal utility locating laws and requirements for directional drill operations.
