Job Description
Overview:
The position will be preparing poles for installation of new strand and fiber, lashing over existing cable and installation of fiber slack in aerial and underground vaults. This position should have some knowledge of NESC and local jurisdiction codes. This position will assume overall safety by using the proper tools and must be able to climb poles to perform installation of pole line hardware for new and make ready work. This position will be working aloft in a bucket truck with heights up to 40 feet in the air. A class A CDL is strongly preferred for this position as it will be operating a bucket truck.
Responsibilities:
Aerial Lineman duties including cable and fiber line work
Climbing telephone poles to install and work on cable lines in accordance with customer required work
Reading and interpreting OSP facilities
Grounding, anchoring and bonding as needed
Installation of new fiber strand in both aerial and underground vault
Understanding NESC and local jurisdiction codes
Qualifications:
Must be 21 years old to operate company vehicles/equipment
Valid driver license
Class A CDL is strongly preferred for this position
Ability to work in confined spaces and/or aloft in a bucket truck
Possesses strong analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to work with internal and external customers
Must have experience lashing cable, placing anchors and strand
Must have strong interpersonal communication skills to effectively communicate with product vendors and customers
Ability to work from oral or written instructions and plan work without direct supervision
Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and in various hours of the day or night and holidays as required
Must be able to respond to after-hours callouts, work overtime, shifts and weekends
Ability to lift 50 lbs or less
Must be comfortable working at heights
Must be able to climb poles on hooks
Knowledge of local cable facilities and fiber networks a plus
Experience in Outside Plant telecom functions
Experience in how to read and interpret outside and subscriber plant facility records and engineering schematic work prints
Electronics training or experience that demonstrates knowledge of AC/DC theory
Knowledge of bonding and grounding requirements of telecommunications plant
Assist other technical personnel in the performance of their duties when requested
Ability to distinguish between different cable types (i.e., telecommunication, electrical, fiber, CATV, etc.)
Ability to build cable records, cut sheets and as-builts
Must pass company drug testing, background check and submit to all OSHA and company safety training.
