Position: OSP UG Equipment Operator
Location: Southern MD Area and throughout MD, DC and VA
Start Date: Immediate
FLSA: Full Time, Non-Exempt
Southern Maryland Cable, Inc., a well-established company in Southern Maryland is seeking an experienced OSP UG Equipment Operator. This position is responsible for operating all underground equipment to include backhoe, trencher, plow, as well as performing other duties as required for all projects assigned.
Essential Job Functions, Duties & Responsibilities, but not limited to:
• Safely and efficiently setup and operate equipment to maximize daily productivity and quality
• Monitor locating process and equipment during the drilling phases
• Provide resolution to diverse scope of problems that may arise at job site
• Carry out basic maintenance of equipment, including lubricating and cleaning and report any mechanical issues to manager
• Mobilize equipment, including loading, unloading, setup and tear down
• Demonstrate courtesy and professionalism when working directly with customers, vendors/suppliers and subcontractors
• Take direction easily and respect changes in priorities and timing as requested by manager
• Perform other duties as assigned with positive attitude
• Perform all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and use appropriate safety equipment following all Miss Utility Laws
Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• 1-year experience with operating UG equipment and/or similar heavy equipment in various conditions
• CDL Driver’s License or Commitment to obtain one once in the position
Position: Aerial Communications Linemen
Location: Southern MD Area and throughout MD, DC and VA

Southern Maryland Cable, Inc., a well-established company in Southern Maryland seeks experienced Aerial Communications Linemen. This position will be responsible for stringing and maintaining fiber optic cable which includes pulling, tensioning, and stranding. This individual must be able to maintain and repair overhead fiber lines. This position will require proficiency with new cable installs, pole transfers, strand building, lashing, make readies, and equipment mounting.
Essential Job Functions, Duties & Responsibilities, but not limited to:
• Responsible for customer premise and outside plant installations, including framing, mounting, pulling, and grounding
• Build bays, fiber distribution panels, inner-ducts, jumper pathways and other network elements needed for the installing of fiber optic equipment and patch-cords
• Monitor, communicate and perform corrective actions to fix problems affecting any fiber or fiber related equipment
• Provide emergency restoration services and line recovery
• Provide splice closure hanging and lowering services for splicing crews as needed
• Install demarcation enclosures, switches and other telecom equipment
• Support new business development and customer service by being available and responsive to internal and external customers and for new business inquiries
• Provide detailed paperwork and documentation to ensure accurate record-keeping, billing and inventory
• Follow and implement all Miss Utility Laws
• Other duties as assigned
Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Valid Driver’s License is required with clean driving record
• Experience with the following equipment: ladders, bucket truck, cable puller, pole truck, digging equipment, and reel-stands

This position is responsible for operating Directional Drilling Equipment, locating equipment, and small dirt equipment, as well as performing other duties as required for each directional bore project. Southern Maryland Cable, Inc. is seeking an experienced Project Manager for underground utility/outside plant data and telecommunications infrastructure projects. The Project Manager will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the construction project including planning, scheduling and managing keeping the project on track, within budget, in compliance and positioned for timely completion with exceptional quality.
Job Requirements & Responsibilities, but not limited to:
• Knowledge of industry standard construction means and methods.
• Ability to read and understand contract documents, drawings and specifications. Understands building systems, construction materials, electrical, design and engineering concepts, and overall knowledge of construction, data & telecommunications infrastructure projects.
• Perform site visits, conduct site surveys and document existing conditions.
• Perform take-offs, submit RFQ’s and RFI’s, develop scope of work based on contract documents complete with scope inclusions, exclusions & classifications.
• Work in collaboration with a network of subcontractors and material suppliers, to guarantee best value pricing, timely estimates and quality of work available on every project.
• Review suppliers/subcontractors quotes for completeness with project plans & specifications.
• Review design options and recommend solutions based on cost, engineering quality and/or availability of materials.
• Establish preliminary construction schedule and duration.
• Familiar with various Inside Plant (ISP) and Outside Plant (OSP) construction methods including Structured cabling and wiring methods such as building conduit and riser cabling design, analysis, and recommendations relative to CAT 5, 5e, CAT 6, copper, fiber-optic, and coaxial cable installations. Aerial, directional boring, backhoe, trenching, and plowing operations as well as digger and bucket truck operations.
• Maintain a professional appearance, positive attitude, and exceptional work ethic.
Education, Knowledge and Abilities:
• Bachelor’s Degree in construction management, engineering or related discipline OR equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
• 5-10 years successful experience as a commercial construction estimator with projects ranging from $250 thousand to $10 million.
• Experience using Sage 300 Construction (Timberline) is a plus.
• Solid overall telecom utility infrastructure background
• Experienced in proposal development
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
• Project and/or customer experience with federal, state, local governments and commercial installations
• Strong Computer skills MS Office (strong knowledge of Excel), Visio, MS Project and CAD.
• Ability to adhere to demanding project deadlines and attention to detail.
