HDD - 2 year previous experience as HDD Rig Operator for installation of underground telecommunications cable conduit, including fiber optic cable. LOCATOR - 2 years experience locating for directional drill. Both must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record for 3 years (no accidents), pass a drug and background screen.

Other Requirements

Able to meet physical requirements involves sitting, standing, bending, climbing, lifting, working at heights, in confined spaces and in all types of weather. Perform other related duties as assigned. Install conduit, vaults, cable, etc i.e. doing labor work when not operating or locating or operating HDD.

Must be 21 years or older, have a valid driver’s license with clean driving record for 3 years (no accidents or DUI), pass a drug test, Class A CDL preferred. 2 years’ experience locating for directional drill. Able to meet the physical requirements of the position which involves sitting, standing, bending, climbing, lifting, working at heights, in confined spaces and in all types of weather conditions (rain, snow, heat etc.)


HDD Operator Responsibilities:

• Operates Horizontal Directional Drill for installation of underground telecommunications cable conduit, including fiber optic cable.
• Ensures safety of the public and other utilities underground facilities.
• Performs all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment.
• Setup and cleanup of work site including traffic and pedestrian control.
• Reads utility locates and coordinating day lighting of these facilities.
• Ensures all applicable permits and locates are complete and on site.
• Inspects the work that is in progress to ensure that the workmanship conforms to specifications.
• Operates construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
• Install conduit, vaults, cable etc. i.e. doing labor work when not operating HDD.
• Level earth to final grade specifications.
• Operates vehicles and equipment operations from trucks to other equipment as directed and certified.
• Performs proper maintenance by greasing, oiling, and making minor repairs on equipment.
• Leads teams in the field effectively and efficiently as needed and directed by supervisor.

Locator’s Responsibilities:
• Confirm bore path with install foreman and drill operator (including walking the bore path).
• Operate HDD Locator equipment in accordance with company and industry standards
• Maintains company equipment per service requirements and safety guidelines
• Experience working in right of way along with private property in any condition
• Communicate work progress and safety performance to the site supervision
• Install conduit, vaults, cable etc. i.e. doing labor work when not locating
• Maintain all equipment in good and safe working condition and report any findings to lead hand
• Take active role in TCOM health and safety program
• May perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

• 2 years of Horizontal Directional Drill experience
• 2 years' experience locating for a directional drill
• Must possess and maintain a clean driver's abstract and valid full-driver's license appropriate to the requirements of the vehicle being driven – Class A CDL preferred
• Working knowledge of health, safety and environmental protection practices and procedures as they apply to related construction processes
• Follow safety policies and procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment required for the job in a safe manner
• Strong knowledge and understanding of construction blueprints
• Must be able to track and communicate daily production and materials
• Must be capable of handling logistics and crew assignments
• Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with multiple project stakeholders, interpret stakeholders' needs, and identify solutions
• Ability to work with little supervision, while adding to a safe and positive team environment is a must
• Successful completion of pre-employment drug & alcohol requirements

Work Conditions

• Able to meet the physical requirements of the position which involves sitting, standing, bending, climbing, lifting (up to 50 pounds), working at heights, in confined spaces and in all types of weather conditions (rain, snow, heat etc.)
