Job Description and Responsibilities :
Job Summary:
This position is responsible for establishing communications systems by splicing and troubleshooting existing OSP, placing or rebalancing active equipment and testing, and documenting coax system from head end to tap.
Primary Responsibilities:
Identify network components on a network print
Splice active and passive network components
Understand network powering requirements
Balance amplifier and set node output levels
Plan network splicing by studying customer work order requests and using customer playbooks and manuals and technical specifications
Troubleshoot and remediate coaxial network issues such as system noise and ingress, low or high signal level, etc.
Utilize coaxial test equipment, including TDR, DSAM (Sweep and Balance), Leakage Detector, etc.
Create bill of materials based on prints in order to complete a site installation
Create network installation diagrams
Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock and verifying receipts
Provide as-builds as required
Maintain safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal regulations
Perform any other duties as assigned
Requirements :
Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate plus 4 years’ experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience:
Four years of splicing experience
One to two years of telecommunication construction experience or cable experience preferred
Ability to analyze and troubleshoot design plans as needed to support project
Ability to read and understand maps, drawings and diagrams for project build process
Technical Skills:
Ability to utilize MS Excel or equivalent to document and retrieve splice information
Proven knowledge and training on use of sweep equipment
Soft Skills:
Highly organized and detail orientated
Ability to detect errors, determine causes, and make corrections as appropriate
Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment
Ability to comprehend, process and apply both verbal and written skills appropriate to the job
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing
Individuals must have a valid driver’s license and driving record meeting the company policy conditions
Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 50 lbs; includes body weight, equipment, tools and boxes
Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces
May be required to work long and unpredictable hours
Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather
Ability to climb and work at elevations (e. g. from ladders, poles, lift trucks) exceeding 18 feet
Ability to work in confined spaces (e. g. attics, crawl spaces, utility holes)
