Qualifications
Technical degree in line work or fiber engineering, or the equivalent in training or work experience. Minimum 5 years of demonstrated work experience. Expert knowledge of Fujikura fusion splicers and OTDR testing equipment. Fully proficient in ribbon spicing procedures. Ability to work from an Aerial lift truck and ladder. Position requires a valid drivers license, driving from site to site. Must possess strong problem solving, decision making, analytical skills and organizational skills.
Other Requirements
Previous experience supervising or leading a team of fiber splicing techs is preferred.
Job Description
This position is responsible for single and mass fusion splicing; preparation, installation, testing and repair of fiber optic cable. A Sr. Fiber Optic Technician will plan and lead jobs from beginning to end.
Essential Functions Include but are not limited to:
-Accurately read and interpret splicing documents, splicing engineer packets and network plan designs in preparation for each job
-Interface with customer contacts demonstrating the ability to discuss job requirements, foresee potential issues, provide sound technical advice and troubleshoot problems
-Plan and lead jobs from beginning to end; may require providing work direction and immediate supervision of more junior fiber technicians
-Using fusion splicing equipment, splice fiber in a variety of elements, indoor and outdoor
-Follow required inspection processes and fiber testing procedures using OTDR tester
-Analyze and prepare test results for customer presentation
-Document and maintain accurate splicing records and job site notes
-Responsible for complying with all required safety standards
-Responsible for upkeep and maintaining company vehicle, inventory and small tools
-Follow all administrative processes and procedures
-Keep current with fiber optic design and splicing processes, procedures, tools and techniques
This position requires a combination of mobile and sedentary work with the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time, visual acuity to perform activities related to computer work, finger dexterity for keyboarding and operating related job equipment and hand tools. Crouching, climbing and reaching on a frequent basis. Work may be required in a confined space at times. Ability to carry and lift objects as needed. Must be able to lift and move or carry up to 100 pounds.
