Job Description and Responsibilities :
Job Summary: The Equipment Operator is responsible for operating a multitude of different equipment required for underground construction.
Primary Responsibilities:
Complete Trenching, Potholes, set Pedestals, Vaults, Manholes, & Grounding
Maintain equipment by greasing zert fittings and checking fluids daily
Inspect equipment for wear or damage and complete equipment reports on all equipment used every day
Operate Mini Excavators, Hydro Vacs, Back Hoe, Skid Steer/ Loader and Trencher- Plows of various sizes.
Clear brush and dig up utility lines
Operate line location instruments and leak detection instruments when necessary
Prepare sketches for field notes in construction layouts and as-built
Walk out jobsite to plan construction path around existing utility locates, reads the locate paint or flags used by utility locators and looks for signs of un-located utilities
Ensures all trench and potholes are to required depth at all times
Maintains inventory, equipment, supplies and assigned vehicle
Maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
All other duties as assigned
Requirements :
Education:
High school diploma or G.E.D. plus 3 years of experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience:
Knowledge of highway traffic control standards
Knowledge of operation and maintenance of all equipment
Knowledge of health and safety regulations, practices and procedures
Knowledge of reading and interpreting AT&T and/or CATV design prints
Technical Skills:
Ability to read and interpret construction and engineering plans
Ability to research land and plat information and communicate design prints
Ability to accurately sketch and record field notes and computations for as-builts
Ability to perform and/or instruct entry level skills and practices as required
Soft Skills:
Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions
Effective listening, interacting and writing skills
Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
Physical Requirements:
A valid driver’s class A license is required or ability to acquire within 90 days
Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing
Individuals must have a valid driver’s license and driving record meeting the company policy conditions
Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 80 lbs; includes body weight, equipment, tools and boxes
Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces
Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather and in close proximity to vehicular traffic
May be required to work long and unpredictable hours
