Qualifications
We need proven experience as Operator and Locator. We will drug test. High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) preferred. Previous experience in standard and high-risk areas preferred. Previous experience in underground fiber and coax construction a plus. Previous boring experience a plus. Knowledge of utility depths and placements needed. Possess general knowledge of construction practices.
Other Requirements
Operates horizontal directional drill in accordance with blueprints and designated plans. Maintains company equipment per service requirements and safety guidelines. Assist with construction clean-up as necessary. Aerial qualifications and experience. Any other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Willing to work outside in varying weather conditions. We also need Laborers.

Summary: The individuals in this position will work with other technicians to accomplish outside plant duties and activities. The main focus of the job is to assist the area manager / supervisor by providing field support. The outside plant technician should expect to spend the majority of their time in the field but should also expect to complete administrative tasks as required by the manager. Although the work schedule does vary, the outside plant technician may be required to work extensive hours and/or after normal work hours. The outside plant technician may have to work up to 6-day work weeks, required to travel, and possibly be listed on a rotating on call schedule.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Climb telephone poles and ladders, enter tunnels, buildings, vaults, trenches, attics, crawl spaces or man holes to place, maintain or remove wiring or equipment. Work in remote and rough terrain locations. Work outside and will be exposed to all weather conditions as well as dirt, grease and wood preservatives. Wear appropriate safety equipment and follow established safety practices and procedures.
- Perform construction work such as digging holes, placing poles, laying cable in the ground, unreeling, pulling and stringing wire and cable from pole to pole by perceiving differences in wire and cable colors to place fiber cable from Central Office through conduit or attach pole lines to customer business or distribution points in the loop.
- Dismantle, move or remove aerial, underground or building wire, cable, associated equipment, poles and hardware as per the customer and supervisory order.
- Required to communicate with customers, supervisors and upper management, using formal business English via email, personally or phone to help maintain code and guidelines of the company and to communicate job status and issues surrounding daily activities. Required to complete and supply necessary documentation for daily reporting.
- Adheres to all company employee safety, and customer rules and policies. This includes, but is not limited to, appearance codes and vehicle policies.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
Work outside in all types of weather.
Must be able to lift, handle, and carry 80-pound ladder and meet ladder safety requirements.
Must be able to work at heights of 3-25 ft.
Must be able to bend, stand, sit, crawl, climb, and lift throughout each work day.
Must be able to operate bucket trucks and aerial lifts.
Required to frequently stand, walk, and sit. Required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel or crouch to wire cables and string wire.
Miscellaneous Skills / Considerations:
Must have a valid driver's license and meet Broadband Service Group driving criteria guidelines.
Must be able to pass a background check, per company policy.
Must be a drug free individual
Must be strongly mechanically inclined.
