Must be able to work with a team, adapt to changes, meet deadlines, problem solve, and thrive under pressure. Travel during the week is a must, hotel will be provided and $35 per diem for overnight stays.
Job Description
An Underground Construction Operator is typically considered the “Number Two” person on a crew and as such, pays an increasingly bigger role in assisting the foreman in running an efficient and profitable job site. Of course, the primary role is to operate the equipment as directed in order to achieve the results required by the foreman. As such, the operator needs to take great care in avoiding costly downtime by maintaining the equipment and by not hitting utilities.
Assist the foreman by directing the activities of the construction laborer; operate various pieces of equipment, including trenchers, backhoes, directional bore rigs, mini excavators, skid loaders, plows; read and interpret blue prints in order to assist the foreman with laying out the project and once started, ensuring is continuation; locate all underground utilities before excavating; oversee the daily maintenance of the equipment; responsible for ensuring the crew’s company vehicle(s) is properly stocked with equipment-related material like bentonite and grease; able to read various prints to determine facility type, size, installation depth, location, and easements; responsible for the loading and unloading of equipment; responsible for preparing the equipment to leave the shop every morning by doing standard routine tasks like filling up all water tanks, filling diesels cans, filling the vehicle with fuel, and ect.
