Job Description and Responsibilities :
The Mechanic is responsible to perform all work necessary to keep vehicles, machines, and mechanical equipment in repair as well as to maintain shop inventory and equipment.
Primary Responsibilities:
Determine vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts
Correct vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling and disassembling. Replace major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems such as power and drive trains, electrical air condition, fuel, emission, brakes, steering, and hydraulics
Make vehicle adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems control linkages, clutches, and traction units
Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems
Maintain vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting
Maintain vehicle records by annotating services and repairs
Maintain shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventative maintenance, and calling for repairs
Keep equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing components and part upgrades, controlling corrosion, and completing winterizations procedures
Contain cost by using warranty and evaluating service and parts options
Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipts
Comply with federal state vehicle requirement by testing engines, safety, and combustion control standards
Other duties as required
Requirements :
Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma plus 2-4 years’ experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Associates Degree in Diesel Mechanics or related degree a plus
Experience:
1 year experience working with diesel engines
2-3 years of strong automotive mechanical diagnosis, problem-solving and repair experience.
ASE certifications are preferred.
Familiarity with technical and regulation publications
Technical Skills:
Ability to operate shop machinery and equipment
Training in vehicle/construction equipment repair and maintenance repair
Soft Skills:
Ability to detect errors, determine causes, and make corrections as appropriate
Skill in assigning, prioritizing, monitoring, and reviewing work assignments
Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment while maintaining safety standards
Strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing
Individuals must have a valid driver’s license and driving record meeting the company policy conditions
Must possess and maintain a CDL
Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 50 lbs; includes body weight, equipment, tools and boxes
Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces
Ability to travel required
