Job Description
S&N Communications is currently hiring a Safety Compliance Inspector to cover the Louisiana and Mississippi. The position will ideally be located in the Baton Rouge area, but other locations are possible.
POSITION SUMMARY
Position will have responsibility to provide safety support and oversight of utility installation/Utility Locating projects to include but not limited to telecommunications and power. Position requirements include the ability for an individual to work outdoors, and to operate independently. This is not a temporary/contractual position -- it is full time.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Safety Compliance Inspector position will be responsible for performing the following duties:
- Ensure vendor and company safety policies are being adhered to.
- Perform damage investigation and document findings.
- Perform and document safety inspections.
- Input safety data into computer/tablet based portal.
- Ability to respond to after-hours damage investigations.
- Select target audits based upon existing company procedures.
- Route daily audits in logical manner.
- Interact with client representatives.
- Use lap top computer/tablet to receive, document and email.
- Provide on-site remediation when necessary.
- Ability to recognize and stop unsafe actions.
- Attend monthly department meetings at various locations.
- Mentor departmental new hires on field aspect of job.
- Perform other work related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- OSHA 30 hour card in Construction or General Industry
- Background in all facets of underground utility installation/utility locating with an emphasis on an enhanced knowledge of utility locating fundamentals and procedures.
- Preferred candidate should live within 75 mile radius of specified market or be willing to relocate.
- Must be at least eighteen years of age.
- HS Diploma or GED required.
- One to three years' experience in safety inspections with utility installation industry to include removal, installation, locating and safety procedures.
- Multi-utility experience preferred to include telecommunications, power, and gas.
- Clean background check for access to restricted and/or controlled areas.
- Valid driver license with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass random drug screens and to remain drug and alcohol free.
- Specialized skills training/certification may be required.
- Dependable and trustworthy.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to look beyond the standard solutions.
REQUIREMENTS
- Requires the availability for call out, including some mandatory overtime.
- May require weekend and holiday work when necessary.
- Some travel may be required, including overnight stays and out-of-town assignments and/or training.
- Ability to walk all types of terrain (grass, ditches, wooded areas, gravel, etc.) in and around construction zones and residential, commercial, industrial and rural areas in all types of weather conditions (rain snow, cold, heat, etc.)
- Must be able to work alone, independently, and responsible.
- Strong emphasis on safety culture and awareness.
- Strong verbal and communication skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds in a physical environment.
- Ability to stand and walk for periods of time up to and exceeding 60 minutes.
- Regular exposure to factors such as temperature extremes and variety of terrains.
