Job Description

Summary:

3 year contract. No constant moving - areas offer 6-12 months per project. Inspect every pole and associated drop in each town to determine compliance to applicable codes (mainly NESC) and pole owner standards; propose needed make ready or needed construction to bring into compliance; enter data into EXCEL spreadsheet (Master List).

An experienced pole inspector can expect to complete 75-100 locations per day.

Specifications

• A visual pole safety inspection will be performed. Some poles require no measurement or plant change proposals and will be documented as "compliant" in the respective Master List.
• For those poles that fail the visual safety inspection, a detailed safety inspection must be performed, with the use of measurements. These require the identification of code and contract violations, along with the proposed plant changes required to correct the violation. Note: Oregon utilizes industry adopted codes and abbreviations which universally describe plant and conditions.
• The corresponding strand maps (supplied by the Client) must have each pole contacted assigned an “item number”, and the data entered into the Master List
• All required plant changes will be entered into the corresponding cells in the Master List.
• Additionally, any poles found in the field and not in the Master List must be inspected to complete all the applicable columns in the Master List. The data must be entered into a new row in the Master List, and assigned the next consecutive Item number for the map on which it resides.
• Only violations that are Client’s responsibility will be documented. The work requires the inspector to pass or fail the Client's facilities as they relate to the 2012 Edition of National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), pole owner attachment agreements, State Department of Transportation specifications, and any other governmental regulations pertinent to electrical safety and construction standards.
• Only document poles that have Client plant or service drops currently attached.
• When inspecting a drop pole, denote pole on the map and draw a squiggle line to the corresponding mainline facility.
• When no tag is on the pole, note in pole ID box as “NT” (no tag).
• When a pole tag cannot be determined because the pole visibility is obstructed (vines, risers, signs, etc.) note in pole ID box as “NV” (not visible). Note each number that is visible, then use an asterisk for those not (e.g. 123**567).
• Note all poles requiring a pole transfer.
• Only note tree trim if vegetation presents a foreseeable danger to the poles or the electric supply operator’s facilities. No tree trimming on service drops.
• If Client owns the pole (only tenant on the pole and no pole owner tag), note as instructed.
• Do not document tree attachments.
• Only submit production data on completed maps.
