Qualifications
Skills and knowledge of Fiber Technician II.
ISP and OSP network bay and splice closet installation.
Proper ISP and OSP communication room cable routing.
ISP and OSP field auditing.
Basic on site ISP and OSP fiber optic network infrastructure design and maintenance.
Fiber testing OTDR & Power Meter
Splice enclosure auditing using 1 kHz/ 2kHz tone generator and traffic identifier.
Pigtail fusion splicing.
Field fusion splicing.
OSP and ISP splice enclosure building.
Other Requirements
Must be willing to travel.
A high school diploma or equivalent and 2-4 years of experience or a satisfactory equivalent of education and/or experience.
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.
Strong OTDR and OLTS testing skills.
Strong knowledge of DOT practices for fiber trailers.
Work independently in the absence of supervision.
Clean background check and valid driver's license.

Job Title: Fiber Tech II Date: 11/12/2014
Reports to: Fiber Technical Manager FLSA: Non-Exempt
Position Overview:
At Trans-Tel the Fiber Tech II is responsible for performing testing, maintenance and providing support at designated customer locations. This work may include, but is not limited to the following activities:
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions**):
• Skills and knowledge of Technician I
• Able to work without onsite supervision
• Advance network troubleshooting skills
• Advanced ISP cabinets and network bay installation
• Advanced on site ISP and OSP fiber optic network infrastructure design and maintenance
• Optical Ground Wire preparation, splicing and termination
• OSP and ISP splice enclosure building
• OSP passive optic network (PON) cabinet and termination panel building
• Basic understanding of optical transmission
• Strong network troubleshooting skills
• Testing using Chromatic Dispersion and Polarization Mode Dispersion modules
• Ability to build spreadsheets for splice assignments from design documents
• Advance proficiency in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and Adobe Acrobat Standard
• Ability to read and follow complex instructions of various types of test equipment
• Ability to read and follow complex installation directions of various hardware
Supervision Received:
• This position will receive general supervision and direction under the Fiber Manager and the Site Manager
Qualifications & Skills:
REQUIRED:
• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Valid DL and ability to pass a background check and drug test.
• Minimum of 1-3 years of telecommunications experience
• Basic network troubleshooting skills.
• Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, walk, lift overhead, work at heights, walk/work in rough terrain in order to access equipment, tools, materials, and jobsite in order to complete work. Must be able to lift 70 pounds; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity are necessary.
