Job Description
The Lead Technician will provide technical and day-to-day operational oversight for a specific service area. The position serves as the first responder for escalations, plant related issues and maintenance operations. Also responsible for ensuring that the assigned area meets or exceeds key performance indicators set by the company. Serves as the technical escalation resource for the area. Directly supervises the Customer Premise Technicians assigned to the same service area.
Position Duties
• Ensure that personal are adhering to all company policies and guidelines.
• Ensure that adequate stock levels for equipment and consumables is maintained for each property.
• Ensure that all work orders are closed out daily.
• Promote and foster an atmosphere of professionalism (dress and appearance, communications, etc.).
• Perform escalated service calls: troubleshoot the coaxial portion of the plant from the customer .premise to the tap in order to resolve customer issues that exceed the skillsets of the Customer Premise Technician.
• Perform scheduled and unscheduled plant maintenance: troubleshoot the coaxial portion of the plant from the tap through the distribution cable to the headend in order to restore customer video, voice, or high-speed internet service, as required; respond to and repair outages/service interruptions during regular business hours, shift work or when “on-call” as required.
• Troubleshoot and repair signal leakage; perform CLI documentation, as required.
• Perform FCC Proof-of-Performance and other associated network documentation.
• Weekly payroll and time sheets.
• Works closely with the Command Center to ensure schedule accuracy and workload balance.
• Responsible for communicating and driving company initiatives and objectives.
• Weekly and monthly reporting of KPI’s.
Qualifications
• Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), various applicable state and local codes, and pertinent SCTE standards.
• 3 years’ experience as a Line/Maintenance Technician, Headend Technician or similar experience.
• Knowledge of modern telecom video, voice and data products and services.
• Knowledge of system architectures, including the HFC network, consisting of the distribution system active and passive components and coaxial cable, and signal types.
• Knowledge of different coaxial cables, optical fibers, and cabling techniques.
• Knowledge of coaxial cable construction.
• Knowledge of technical mathematic concepts.
• Ability to work on a computer; knowledge of computer hardware, software and the Internet and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve related service failures.
• Working knowledge of RF and optical test equipment and analyzers.
• Ability to use cable distribution and maintenance tools and hand tools.
• Ability to read general system layouts from blueprints.
• Ability to comply with safety procedures and requirements.
• Ability to prioritize, and organize effectively, and work independently.
• 2 years of focused experience in cable television network operations.
• Proficient with spectrum analyzers, VOM’s, power meters, TDR’s and OTDR’s.
• Experience troubleshooting digital signal performance characteristics (MER, BER, Modulation Schemes and FEC).
• Ability to read and interpret a QAM constellation.
• SCTE BDS certification or equivalent experience (certification required 120 days after start date).
• Other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Some on-call hours may be required
• Some evening shift work
• Travel up to 30%
