Job Description
Position Description:
Based out of the Albany headquarters, the Splicing Technician will be responsible for splicing newly placed fiber optic cable and performing maintenance on existing Outside Plant (OSP) fiber optic cable.
Minimum Qualifications:
4+ years of outside plant fiber splicing
Experience using the following equipment: fusion splicer, mechanical splicer, OTDR, power meters, traffic identifiers, digital multimeters, cleavers, strippers, buffer tube splitters, cable ring tools, hand tools, toners, rodders, ladders, bucket trucks, etc
Hands on experience with splicing & termination of high count OSP fiber (loose tube, ribbon, etc)
Ability to perform ring cuts on live fiber without effecting existing services
Repair, install, maintain OSP facilities including telephone poles, underground services, and conduit
Ability to read, interpret and follow complex maps, diagrams and schematics
Strong problem solving skills, the ability to make decisions with some latitude and the ability to organize and prioritize work base on established guidelines
Capable of working independently with minimal supervision
This job will periodically require overtime work and/or on-call during off shift hours
The ability to pass a pre-employment drug / background test, and DMV check
Desired Qualifications
Experience using Fujikura FSM-40,50,60S
Experience with Passive Optical Networking (PON) a strong plus
Previous CLEC installation and service experience a strong plus
Strong customer service and verbal communication skills
