Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
The System Specialist reports to the Director of Edge Technology for the TWC enterprise. This position will be part of a team of spectrum designers responsible for placement of all services such as analog, QAM’s, Local insert etc with-in the designed spectrum of the markets. Will work with other spectrum teams, Video operations, CMTS Engineers and controller teams to evaluate best practices in the designs.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Performs and coordinates high level consulting efforts requiring collaboration between Field Engineering, Video Ops, Network Engineering, Tech Ops etc.
• Aids in the development and monitors both customer and network operations processes including establishment of 'best practice'.
• Ensures standard configurations and architectures are implemented and maintained.
• Assists with understanding main customer call drivers and the connection between engineering activities and operations.
• Tracks and understands a common set of key metrics across the operating area to monitor the performance and health of all the major technical and operational parameters of new technology launches.
• Collaborates with engineering leadership and peers in other operating areas to evaluate and continuously improve best practices.
• Identifies design needs and flaws in order to provide informed feedback on the original architecture from a customer service perspective.
• Reviews configuration sheets before launching new hardware or changes (i.e.: SDV QAM's).
• Coordinates and direct the integration of technical activities.
• Makes Decisions and Solving Problems - Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
• Analyzes Data or Information - Identifying the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information by breaking down information or data into separate parts.
• Monitors Processes and review information from events to detect or assess problems.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Thorough knowledge of trap association, Muxing technologies, Edge QAM configuration, RF spectrum as it relates to CATV, off air services operating in the CATV band of the spectrum.
• 10 + yrs experience in Operations Processes with developer's understanding of technology across multiple platforms (SDV, Network, CMTS.
• Ability to drive hard results with the appropriate technical foresight, business flexibility, and people sensitivity. Must be able to communicate to executive levels.
• An effective bridge-builder between Video Ops, Commercial Eng., Net Eng., Tech Ops and Field Eng.
• Shared values and style consistent with TWC’s corporate values: dedication to innovation; high business ethics; diversity; corporate responsibility; customer-focused and quality service.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment handling multiple tasks simultaneously under pressure and meet goals/deadlines is a must.
• Must be able to ensure standards of technology deployment among remote teams of employees.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills is required.
• Must serve an effective change leader “Achieve end-to-end operational network excellence through customer-focused engineering standards and practices to connect people and businesses in ways that are simple and easy.”
• Must have significant experience working with contractors in order to accomplish engineering/operations goals.
• Must be able to indirectly lead engineers across the Area.
•Must be known for technical expertise.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• 3-5 year’s leadership experience preferred.
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s Degree from a four year college or university in Engineering or a related field is preferred, equivalent job.
• 4-6 year’s experience in a cable or telecommunications company, within the engineering environment.
