Job Description
The purpose of this position is to inspect, troubleshoot, repair or otherwise maintain the integrity of Time Warner Cable’s fiber optic cables.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Splicing of fiber optic cable for tie in to existing plant for New Construction projects.
Splicing of fiber optic cable for emergency restoration.
Compiling fiber trace data for splices completed.
Troubleshoot and repair cable problems and perform routine maintenance from television/computer to node, working in a timely and efficient manner with minimal impact on customer and property.
Complete fiber tie-ins and repairs to cable plant as directed by management.
Report and Track Work in Computer software database
Respond to any referral with appropriate explanation of work done or why work could not be completed as requested
Understand and utilize all appropriate test equipment: fusion and mechanical fiber splicer, TDR, and OTDR, measuring stick, measuring wheel, depth probe
Interact courteously with all customers, internal and external.
Represent Time Warner Cable and the Construction Department in a positive knowledgeable manner
Observe all safety regulations and practice safety precautions in use of vehicle, tools, equipment, materials, ladder. Take immediate corrective action if possible, and report all safety issues to management
Assist management in assuring that all construction meets TWC Construction specifications, NESC, and applicable Local, State, and Federal guidelines.
Other duties as assigned
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Good working knowledge of AC, DC and RF.
Good working knowledge of all aspects of fiber and coaxial construction methods.
Must be able to read, interpret, and follow cable design prints
Must be familiar with NESC and TWC Construction Standards
Good organization and communication skills.
Able to develop and maintain working relationships with co-workers, colleagues in other TWC departments, contractors and the general public.
Working knowledge of personal computer and ability to enter data in basic software programs (Word, Excel or equivalents)
Working knowledge of all signal meter (digital/analog) and coaxial and fiber optic test equipment.
Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
Must be able to maintain customer and personnel information in a confidential manner
