High School Diploma/GED equivalent. Telecommunications experience is preferred. Sound knowledge in the installation of cabling systems. Interpretations of electrical schematics and documentation. Must have 2 years of continuous fiber optic. Must be able to assemble optical fiber lasers and amplifiers. Experience using standard electronic test equipment, including oscilloscopes, function generators, DMMs and spectrum analyzers.

Experience in fiber optic sensor or system assembly and testing or 2 years experience installing Mil./Comm. spec., Cat4,5,5E,6, Coax, Triax, Heliax connectors. Competence in using standard fiber optic preparation and splicing equipment, and OTDRs. Working understanding of the following: MIL-STD 2042B, 2052, and NSTM 408. Must have a working understanding of the EIA/TIA standards 514, 526 and 568. Sound knowledge and working experience with Category 5, Coax, Triax and Heliax cabling.

The role of this individual is to build and test data network systems aboard Naval vessels. Duties include fiber installation, cleaving, polishing, connecting, splicing, (overall management), electro-mechanical installation, connectorization and validation of those connections. Hand soldering, and harness and printed circuit board (PCB) assembly a plus. Operation of test equipment for evaluating fiber optic and electro-mechanically connected components, sensors and systems. Mechanical assembly of sensors, test fixtures and electronics chassis. Works with a sense of urgency, efficiency and productive out put. Maintains safe work practices and adheres to safety policies and procedures. Ability to meet goals. Ability to work with minimal supervision and be responsible for assuring the quality of the employee’s own work. Must keep impeccable time keeping and absentee records. Ability to plan and set time frames on jobs with accuracy. Ensure correct construction procedures are adhered to in compliance with standards. Ability to work under pressure. Ability to work overtime as required. Following specific workmanship instructions, multitasking. Must be receptive to changing priorities
