Job Description
Summary: Looking for individuals with a minimum of two years’ experience in aerial coaxial / fiber construction. The individual in this position will work with the other technicians to accomplish outside plant duties and activities. The outside plant technician should expect to spend the majority of their time in the field but should also expect to complete administrative tasks as required by the manager. Although the work schedule does vary, the outside plant technician may be required to work extensive hours and/or after normal work hours. The outside plant technician may have to work up to 6 day work weeks, be required to travel, and possibly be listed on a rotating on call schedule.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for the following tasks:
? Climb telephone poles and ladders. Work in remote and rough terrain locations. Work outside and will be exposed to all weather conditions. Wear appropriate safety equipment and follow established safety practices and procedures.
? Perform all aspects of aerial construction work. Primary duties will include pole transfers, violation repairs and make ready. Work will also include the construction of new strand, coax and fiber.
? Ability to work with heavy-duty power equipment and hand tools in the construction, repair and maintenance of outside plant facilities by loading tools and equipment onto trucks and/or trailers, moving, lifting, or pulling weights of 100 pounds or more to operate power equipment such as compressors, pumps, blowers, winches and hydraulic equipment such as aerial lifts (buckets).
? Ability to splice coax is plus but not a necessity.
? Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requisite Skills and Knowledge:
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in aerial construction work.
• Familiar with and ability to use a variety of tools related to aerial construction to include but not limited to, a gas drill, chain saw, chain hoist, and lasher.
• General computer skills.
• Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean motor vehicle report.
• Clear a criminal background verification.
• Must be able to read and understand maps and blue prints.
• Must be able to read and understand written or verbal instructions and work orders.
• Should have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Should have excellent planning and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements:
• Work outside in all types of weather.
• Must be able to lift, handle, and carry 80-pound ladder and meet ladder safety requirements.
• Must be able to work at heights of 3-25 ft.
• Must be able to bend, stand, sit, crawl, climb, and lift throughout each day.
• Must be able to operate bucket trucks and aerial lifts.
