Job Description

Summary: The individual in this position will work with the other technicians to accomplish outside plant duties and activities. The main focus of the job is to assist the area manager / supervisor by providing field support. The outside plant technician should expect to spend the majority of their time in the field but should also expect to complete administrative tasks as required by the manager. Although the work schedule does vary, the outside plant technician may be required to work extensive hours and/or after normal work hours. The outside plant technician may have to work up to 6 day work weeks, required to travel, and possibly be listed on a rotating on call schedule.



Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the following tasks:

v Be familiar with and able to perform a variety of aerial construction task to include but not limited to: Strand, coax and fiber construction. Able to perform pole transfers, resag and make ready arrangements to existing plant.

v Climb telephone poles and ladders, maintain or remove wiring or equipment. Work in remote and rough terrain locations. Work outside and will be exposed to all weather conditions as well as dirt, grease and wood preservatives. Wear appropriate safety equipment and follow established safety practices and procedures.

v Dismantle, move or remove aerial, underground or building wire, cable, associated equipment, poles and hardware as per the customer and supervisory order.

v Ability to work with heavy-duty power equipment and hand tools in the construction, repair and maintenance of outside plant facilities by loading tools and equipment onto trucks and/or trailers, moving, lifting, or pulling weights of 100 pounds or more to operate power equipment such as compressors, pumps, blowers, winches and hydraulic equipment such as aerial lifts (buckets).

v Perform various splicing operations on coaxial cable.

v Required to communicate with customers, supervisors and upper management and throughout OBU staff, using formal business English via email, personally or phone to help maintain code and guidelines of the company and to communicate job status and issues surrounding daily activities. Required to complete and supply necessary documentation for daily reporting.

v Adheres to all company employee safety, and customer rules and policies. This includes, but is not limited to, appearance codes and vehicle policies.

v Creates and promotes a team environment by assisting and encouraging fellow technicians to help each other likewise to reflect a participative and interactive team inside and outside the OBU.

v Required to frequently stand, walk, and sit. Required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel or crouch to wire cables and string wire.

v Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requisite Skills and Knowledge:

• General computer skills

• Posses a valid driver’s license with a clean motor vehicle report.

• Must be able to read and understand maps and blue prints.

• Must be able to read and understand written or verbal instructions and work orders.

• Should have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Should have excellent planning and organizational skills.

Physical Requirements:

•Work outside in all types of weather.
•Must be able to lift, handle, and carry 80-pound ladder and meet ladder safety requirements.
•Must be able to work at heights of 3-25 ft.
•Must be able to bend, stand, sit, crawl, climb, and lift throughout each day.
•Must be able to operate bucket trucks and aerial lifts.
