Qualifications
Bachelors’ Degree in a relevant field of Engineering and five years of related experience or 10 or more years of related experience. Experience in planning fiber optic network additions and estimating OSP projects by detail. Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical specifications, professional documentation and blue prints. Ability to write reports, correspondence and documentation. Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, customers and other employees.
Other Requirements
Demonstrated skill in the use of AutoCAD, MapInfo, MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, O-Calc (or equivalent), Lode Data, GPS handheld systems, and other software as necessary. Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable. Some out of town and overnight travel may be required.
Job Description
Position Summary
Under the direction of the MWFN Operations Manager, the Outside Plant Engineer is responsible for all aspects of route engineering, permitting, CAD drawing, database entry, relocations, and inspections of underground and aerial construction projects in accordance with company policies, procedures and quality standards, and meeting customer delivery requirements.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• Manage all projects to meet or exceed minimum specification to Construction Policy, FCC Technical Standards, NEC, OSHA, State, County and/or City, and all other applicable agencies.
• Manage and conduct QC on outsourced contractor fiber engineered projects.
• Schedule fiber construction projects and oversees compliance of safety standards and quality control of fiber construction projects.
• Maintain a high level of productivity, assuring time-frames are met for projects occurring simultaneously and track and generate reports on project status.
• Engineer aerial and underground facilities.
• Maintain records of fiber rings and splice locations and network topography.
• Manage emergency restoration including coordinating and managing crews, ordering materials and supplies, and coordinating with customers.
• Verify available fiber through maps and documentation.
• Identify and assigns hub, panel, and port for customer circuit turn-up and test.
• Propose fiber path from splice case to build port.
• Research and acquires permits, Rights of Way and Easement Agreements.
• Respond to and plans for fiber relocations.
• Review and validates As-Built documentation from Subcontractors.
• Manage and maintain network mapping software/database.
• Attend customer meetings; perform site surveys/walk-outs as necessary to understand customer requirements and time frames.
• Estimate OSP projects by detail.
• Prepare project documentation, maps and CAD drawings.
• Research and assist in performing site acquisition activities such as permit and right of entry agreements, up to and including fielding and creation of permit prints.
