High school diploma or GED required. Post secondary education, Associates, Technical school or Trade School preferred. NCTI Master Broadband Technician, SCTE Broadband Telecomm Center Specialist or other NCTI or SCTE Certifications preferred. Cisco experience and Certifications preferred. 5-7 years HFC advanced maintenance operations for field and/or headends.

Job Description

I. Job Summary:
Responsible for installing, testing, operating, maintaining, and repairing headend equipment. Periodically tests all equipment and the quality of signals throughout the cable network. Provides technical leadership and mentoring of Performance and Maintenance Technicians in the successful operations of headend equipment and plant performance. This individual will assess complex technologies with various technical and business interdependencies and troubleshoot the technologies in order to support the deployment and operations. This position focuses on the long term support and troubleshooting of those products, training of personnel for support purposes, and constructing a knowledge base of best practices for ongoing operations and maintenance. Maintains required logs, records, and other documentation pertaining to headend operations. Installs new technology as projects and department goals require. Identifies and plans capacity improvements. Conducts quality control tests and measurements on new installations. Works with moderate supervision/guidance and technically leads other Technicians. Is accountable for individual results and impact on team.

II. Duties and Responsibilities:
a. Performs advanced headend maintenance and troubleshooting to ensure minimal system outages.
b. Assists in the fault resolution of RF, IP, and Digital Video networks.
c. Support internet access architecture, including routers, switches and CMTS’s (cable modem terminating systems). Serves as the initial line of support for this part of our network architecture.
d. Utilize tools and test equipment to analyze and align digital and analog RF signals.
e. Maintains an inventory of required parts for headend. OTN and CMTS projects.
f. Work to procure, assemble, install, configure, and troubleshoot all equipment related to digital video and digital video Headends from a variety of manufacturers.
g. Provide support to the Shentel Engineering and Operations teams in order to configure and operate various Digital Video technologies.
h. Develop support documentation related to new and existing technologies in order to aid the Shentel field operations. This includes the use & installation,
i. Configuration and troubleshooting all equipment related to digital video and digital video headends from a variety of manufacturers.
j. Serves as a liaison to field operations and construction personnel.
k. Identifies failing equipment through analysis of reports or status interfaces.
l. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
m. Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.

III. Qualification Requirements:
a. Education Level: High School or Equivalent required.
b. Post secondary education, associates, technical school or trade school preferred.
c. NCTI/SCTE Technical Certifications, Master Broadband Technician (NCTI) or Broadband Telecomm Center Specialist (SCTE) is preferred.
d. Background and certifications in network routing and switching, preferably Cisco certifications or related training.
e. Generally requires 5-7 years demonstrated success in HFC advanced maintenance operations for field and/or headends.
c. Skills Summary: Good computer skills, works well under pressure, good communication skills, and must be able to hear, speak, read, and write.

IV. Knowledge of:
a. Skill: Ability to communicate orally and in written form and in non-face-to-face situations. Ability to read and interpret reports and provide operational experience and judgment to making technical operational decisions.
b. Working knowledge of CMTS and VoIP delivery systems.
c. Working knowledge of video signal processing for program manipulation and delivery.
d. Down conversion and receiver experience and theory.
e. Knowledge in various transport and interconnect protocols of digital signals.
f. Ability to use a PC, Digital Meters and Spectrum Analyzers.
