Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required. 1 year of cable experience, tap to premises experience preferred. Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. Clean criminal background preferred. Ability to work out of doors in all types of weather conditions. Ability carry ladders and equipment across uneven terrain, climb poles using gaffs and climbing belt, ability to work aloft from ladder, pole or rooftop.
Job Description
I. Job Summary:
Under limited supervision, assist with quality control research, perform audits for unauthorized connections by non-customers, analog only customers, digital customers, internet only customers and complete plant condition reports, when applicable.
II. Duties and Responsibilities:
• Conduct field audits of taps; identify and disconnect any unauthorized connections.
• Audit CATV drops; provide all drop locations with permanent tags, service tags, grease threads, rubber grommets, and terminate all unused ports to prevent ingress.
• Identify installed filters and replace with correct filter, where applicable.
• Perform and assist with CATV, cable modem and voice services. Work independently and with others to resolve troubles for CATV networks, Broadband access (DOCSIS), VOIP and other CATV troubles adhering to Shentel’s Network Trouble Reporting Procedure.
• Review and complete daily work requests and service orders.
• Install, configure, and test Network hardware and software.
• Assist in trouble shooting network problems
• Identify opportunities to sell and convert disconnected unauthorized connections to paying customers.
• Work with the door to door sales team to transfer over the disconnected unauthorized accounts for further work.
• Maintain accurate records and reporting requirements.
• Assist with quality control checks on technician’s work as needed and requested by supervisor.
• Identify needed repairs to pedestals and lock boxes or other equipment damaged from illegal connections to maintain system security.
• Extensive travel is required within the Shentel Cable system to perform continuous audits.
• Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.
• Responsible for following, supporting, and enforcing all internal control processes and procedures.
III. Qualification Requirements:
• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
• Experience: 1 year of CATV technical work experience, specifically from Tap to customer premises.
• Skills Summary:
o Knowledge of COAX cable plant, filters, digital converters, fiber, and warehouse compliance.
o Ability to perform job from high places (i.e. poles and roofs).
o Ability to carry, climb and operate extension ladder (approx. 28 ft high and 75 pounds).
o Ability to climb poles using gaffs, hooks and climbing belt as needed.
o Ability to differentiate between multiple sizes and colors of wires.
o Ability to accurately measure distances using tapes or other measuring devices.
o Ability to prioritize and organize effectively.
o Ability to read, write and speak the English language in a clear professional manner to communicate with employees, customers and suppliers.
o Ability to walk over all types of terrain in all kinds of weather while carrying tools and equipment, including gaffs, ladders, and fully loaded tool belts.
o Ability to work independently.
o Ability to work while standing 50 - 70% of the time.
o Ability to work with small components and wires to make cable connections.
o Ability to adhere to Local, Federal and Company policies and regulations.
o Computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and converting digital photos is required.
• Licenses or Certifications: Valid driver’s license
• Special Requirements: Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with customers, vendors and staff. Individual should be able to multi-task and be adaptable to change.
