Job Description
We are currently looking for a Junior Plant Engineer to join our organization in Asheville North Carolina. As part of the Inside Plant and Outside Plant (Optical Transport) team, this individual will provide Design, Engineering, Furnish and Installation services within the ERC Points of Presence (PoPs), Data Center (DC), and customer sites.
Plant Engineers are responsible for the design and installation of infrastructure & equipment used in voice, video, fiber optics and data telecommunications networks. Analyze, plan, layout and assign installation activity to other installation personnel. Act as subject matter expert on provisioning, activating and testing electronic / optical equipment. Junior Plant Engineers are familiar with the majority of these concepts, expected to grow into the rest, and become a Senior Plant Engineer.
The work will involve the installation of cable, wiring, and telecommunications equipment. Plant Engineers are familiar with and / or are trained on iron work / bays / equipment rack installation, AC / DC power know-how, wiring / color code understanding, blueprint / schematic reading / creating and method of procedures.
Job Duties
? Coordinate Inside and Outside Plant design with the Optical Transport Manager
? Install switches, transmission (optical and electrical) equipment, power equipment, wireless equipment and network equipment in PoPs, customer locations, wireless remote locations and outside locations
? Advise management on all aspects of jobs throughout the duration of the job
? Be accountable for completion of assignments
? Perform circuit (equipment) modifications, software adds and upgrades
? Perform maintenance on and add / remove batteries
? DC / AC Power: Add / remove circuits on power distribution sources, ensure that grounding / bonding requirements are strictly adhered to
? Cabling (electrical, CAT, and fiber-optic)
? Conduct testing, turn-up and troubleshooting on equipment and layer 1 of circuits
? Oversee work activities of contractors and subcontractors
? Knowledgeable supervision and / or maintenance of power boards, ATS and engine generators
? Conduct in-process and final inspections
? Responsible for installation details, such as customer relations, project management and administration
? Given that the ERC has a fully-operating network and data center, all employees must be available / on-call 24x7
Qualifications
? High school diploma or GED; technical degree preferred
? Prefer 1-2 years technical experience or background in a technical discipline a plus
? Strong written and verbal communication skills
? Strong computer skills; MS Office and database experience a plus
? Must be adaptable to changing environments
? Be able to lift 50 lbs to height of 7 feet, occasional lift/carry of 51-100 lbs-100 lbs, climb ladders, and work from platforms at heights of 11- 12 feet or more
? Must be willing to travel extensively within the region
? Meet pre- employment background investigation, including previous five (5) years driving and criminal conviction records and pass substance screening
? Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid NC driver's license
? Ability to distinguish colors
? Must have own transportation
? Ability to read cabling designs (electrical, OSP, ISP)
? Experience in properly designing cable designs a plus
? Must be able to pass background investigation to work in the Asheville Federal Building
