Job Description
Job Summary: The Fiber & Cable Installation Technician duties include commercial & residential installations of cable and internet. This position will also include but not be limited to disconnects, reconnects, service upgrades and downgrades, for residential single family, multi-family and/or multi-dwelling units. No prior industry experience necessary.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Install, repair, or disconnect cable and fiber systems in homes (indoor/outdoor).
• Test connections and fix service issues when needed.
• Perform routine maintenance and respond to outages.
• Keep simple records of work completed and equipment used.
• Provide friendly, professional support during customer visits.
• Follow all safety guidelines while working on ladders, poles, and roofs.
• Travel locally each day to different service locations.
• Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to pass required drug and background screening
Experience (preferred, not required):
• Work responsibly with live utilities.
• Use hand tools or power tools to connect customer equipment.
• Listen to and implement directions
• Able to work independently and manage daily tasks.
• Knowledge of:
o Highway traffic control standards
o Operation and maintenance of all equipment
o Health and safety regulations, practices and procedures
Technical Skills:
• Identify and use the tools required for installing and connecting equipment
• Diagnose and/or relay any problems to a certified repair technician
• Accurately sketch and record field notes and computations field as-builts
• Perform and/or instruct entry level skills and practices as required
• Basic understanding of IP networks and common home networking devices.
Soft Skills:
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
• Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions
• Effective listening, interacting and writing skills
• Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
Physical Requirements:
• Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 70-80 pounds including body weight, equipment, tools and boxes
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces
• Work safely on ladders, poles, and roofs.
• Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather and in the near proximity to vehicular traffic
• May be required to work long or unpredictable hours
Work Environment:
• Exposure to varying temperatures and weather as work is both inside and outside.
• Noise levels are moderate to heavy.
• Varying degrees of light as work may begin early morning and continue in the evenings and overnight.
