Job Description
Job Summary: The Drop Bury Technician duties include installation and maintenance of low-voltage broadband fiber optic cables, or coaxial cables buried underground in residential, business, and commercial job sites.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Operating GTS utility locater and place paint lines, or place flags of utility lines including electrical, fiber optic, gas, water, and sewer lines to ensure safe trenching activities.
• Read the job layout including valves and meters that may or may not have been located.
• Operating trenching equipment, duct work laying, cable pulling, and completing driveway and sidewalk boring.
• Maintain bore logs
• Read blueprints organization of materials and other resources as necessary to complete excavation requirements, which may include the use of basic hand tools
• Restore customer lawns, sidewalks, landscaping back to original conditions to maintain effective working relationships with those affected.
• Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Education:
• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Valid Driver’s License
Experience (preferred, not required):
• Utility Locating
• Drill/bore in both standard and high-risk areas, such as areas with live utilities.
• Operate trenching equipment or use hand tool to trench or bore cable lines.
• Listen to and implement directions
• Knowledge of:
o Highway traffic control standards
o Operation and maintenance of all equipment
o Underground Construction practices
o Health and safety regulations, practices and procedures
o Reading and interpreting Fiber maps and/or CATV design prints
Technical Skills:
• Use the tools required for maintaining and servicing machinery
• Diagnose and/or relay any problems to a certified repair technician
• Read and interpret construction and engineering plans
• Research land and plat information and communicate design prints
• Accurately sketch and record field notes and computations field as-builts
• Perform and/or instruct entry level skills and practices as required
Soft Skills:
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
• Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions
• Effective listening, interacting and writing skills
• Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
Physical Requirements:
• Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 60-70 pounds including body weight, equipment, tools and boxes
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces
• Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather and in the near proximity to vehicular traffic
• May be required to work long or unpredictable hours
Work Environment:
• Exposure to varying temperatures as work is primarily outside.
• Noise levels are moderate to heavy.
• Work in different types of terrain including water, sand, and dirt.
• Varying degrees of light as work may begin early morning and continue in the evenings and overnight.
