Job Description
Mercury Z is hiring Fiber Installation & Repair Technicians for an active Fiber Overbuild project. This is a traveling technician position starting in Socorro, New Mexico, with ongoing travel to additional project locations as work continues. This is consistent, full-time hourly work with no bench time — techs stay busy through year-end.
The Work:
- Fiber Overbuild, PON installs, and IPTV installs
- Aerial and buried drop installations
- Copper & fiber skilled preferred — fiber-only technicians also welcome to apply
- Must be willing and able to travel to multiple project locations as assigned
Schedule & Pay:
- Hourly pay project
- 60-hour work weeks
- Steady, continuous workload — this is not a short-term or seasonal gig
Required Tools & Equipment (tech must supply):
- 28 ft ladder
- Optical and standard light meters
- Fusion splicer
- Standard splicer
- Conduit rodder (500 ft)
- Basic telecom hand tools
- Climbing gear for aerial plant work
- Reliable field-capable tablet or Android phone (Android 12+)
- Hammer drill and impact drill
- 5/8" masonry bit and 5/8" wood bit (jobsite includes center block and stucco structures)
- Butt set/handset capable of ONT programming
- Second active Android phone (or a phone you can wipe/reset for system setup)
- Throw line kit
- Lay-up sticks
Ideal Candidate:
Experienced fiber tech comfortable with both aerial and buried drop work, self-sufficient with a full tool/equipment set, willing to travel between job locations, and ready for a steady, high-volume workload in a fast-paced overbuild environment.
Starting Location: Socorro, NM (travel to additional locations required)
Pay: Hourly
Schedule: 60 hrs/week
