Drill Operator — Hidewood Fiber, LLC
Pay: Compensation based on experience, with overtime pay for hours worked beyond 40 per week

POSITION SUMMARY
Hidewood Fiber is looking for experienced Drill Operators to join our growing field crew. This role is essential to our underground construction operations — you'll be running directional drills, managing bore shots, and working alongside Foremen and Field Technicians to deliver quality utility installations for our clients. WHAT YOU'LL DO
Operate horizontal directional drills (HDD) to install underground utilities including fiber, conduit, and power lines. Plan and execute bore shots based on project plans, locate information, and site conditions. Monitor drilling fluid, manage mud systems, and maintain proper downhole tool performance. Coordinate with locators, Foremen, and crew members to ensure safe and accurate bore paths. Perform daily pre-operation inspections and routine maintenance on drill rigs and support equipment. Maintain accurate daily logs including footage, fluid usage, and any downhole issues. Follow all safety protocols, traffic control plans, and site-specific requirements without exception. Transport drill rigs and equipment to and from job sites as needed.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Required:
Proven experience operating horizontal directional drills in underground utility construction. Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Strong understanding of locating, potholing, and utility avoidance. Ability to read and interpret construction plans, bore logs, and locate markings. Ability to perform physically demanding work and lift up to 75 lbs. Reliable, punctual, and ready to show up every day. Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions. Must be able to work in person in Toronto, SD. Must be willing to travel a minimum of 75% of the time. Valid driver's license and clean driving record. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Preferred (but not required):
Experience with mud mixing systems and downhole tooling. OSHA-10 or OSHA-30 certification. Experience operating multiple drill rig brands and sizes. Basic mechanical aptitude for field troubleshooting and maintenance.
