Job Description
DFX Technical Services is a telecommunications fiber splicing, design and engineering service provider.
The Long-Haul Fiber Splicing Technician position is responsible for the maintenance and installation of new and existing fiber in an inside and outside plant environments. The role requires a highly motivated self-starter who possesses the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a large cross-functional team. This job required travel throughout the mainland United States. Production pay is available for an experienced candidate that can hit the road running! Experienced long-haul splicers ONLY please.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
? Ability to prep and splice fiber via mechanical fusion methods
? Ability to splice large count fibers via tube or ribbon method
? Ability to access the fiber optic splicer enclosure and splice the necessary fibers directly from a ladder
? Perform mid-sheath live network splicing.
? Ability to troubleshoot and repair outages on a live network
? Complete central office, rack, head-end, and HUB terminations
? Able to troubleshoot and repair problems utilizing optical test equipment such as OTDR, Fiber Identifier, and Fiber Scope
? Prep, tray, and splice fiber optic cable ranging from single fiber to 288 count, as well as perform ring cut when needed
? Perform testing and turn-ups of subscriber drops in both inside and outside plant environments.
? Perform power meter testing.
? All other duties as required
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
? Ability to read splicing matrix and design/construction drawings
? Ability to utilize MS Excel or equivalent to document and retrieve splice information
? Ability to operate a bucket truck in accordance with all applicable safety standards and requirements
? Highly organized and detail orientated
? Troubleshoot to detect errors, determine causes, and make corrections as appropriate
? Multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
? Ability to comprehend, process, and apply both verbal and written skills appropriate to the job
Physical Requirements:
? Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing
? Individuals must have a valid driver’s license and driving record, meeting the company policy conditions.
? Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat, and lift 50 lbs; includes body weight, equipment, tools and boxes.
? Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces. May be required to work long and unpredictable hours
? Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather
? Ability to climb and work at elevations (e.g., from ladders, poles, lift trucks) exceeding 18 feet
? Ability to work in confined spaces (e.g. attics, crawl spaces, manholes)
Education:
? High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
