Job Description
About the Role
We are hiring Missile Bore Operators for our underground utility construction crews in Kentucky. You will operate pneumatic boring
machines ("missiles") to install underground conduit for fiber optic cable on shorter, straight-line bores such as road crossings,
driveway crossings, and service drops. This is a hands-on role that is essential to our fiber deployment operations.
What You Will Do
- Set up, align, and operate pneumatic boring machines (missiles) to install underground conduit
- Connect and manage diesel-powered air compressors that power the boring equipment
- Ensure bore stays on line and grade to accurately reach the exit pit
- Monitor air pressure, boring progress, and soil conditions throughout the operation
- Select correct bore head sizes and manage conduit installation behind the missile
- Dig or oversee entry/exit pit preparation
- Perform backfill, compaction, and site restoration after boring is complete
- Complete daily production and safety documentation
- Complete daily production and safety documentation
What We Are Looking For
- Experience with pneumatic boring/piercing tools (HammerHead, Grundomat, or similar) preferred
- Understanding of underground utility construction and soil conditions
- Ability to read project plans and utility locate markings
- Mechanical aptitude for equipment setup, operation, and basic troubleshooting
- Comfortable working in trenches and around heavy equipment
- Strong work ethic and ability to work independently
- Valid driver's license required; CDL is a plus
