Full-Time | Underground Utilities | FTTH & RDOF Projects
Overnight Travel Required – Per Diem Provided
SUSCO is expanding our telecom construction crews and seeking experienced Driller/Locator Operators to support broadband installation projects across the region. This role is essential in helping deliver high speed internet to underserved communities through FTTH and RDOF builds.
You’ll work with professional crews, use high quality equipment, and travel to project sites with paid per diem.
About the Role
You will operate directional drilling rigs, locating systems, and support equipment for telecom infrastructure projects. Our teams run Digitrak F2+/Subsite Marksmen locating systems along with Ditch Witch, Vermeer, and Universal drilling rigs.
This role requires overnight travel, and per diem will be provided for all travel assignments.
Key Responsibilities
• Operate directional drilling rigs, locating equipment, mini-excavators, mud pumps, and mud-mixing systems.
• Perform horizontal directional drilling (HDD) while following strict safety guidelines.
• Dig trenches/holes and support all required site preparation activities.
• Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting on drilling equipment.
• Collaborate with crew members to plan and execute daily drilling operations.
• Maintain full compliance with OSHA safety standards and company policies.
• Monitor bore paths, adjust techniques, and ensure accurate drill shots.
Required Skills & Experience
• Proficient in operating small HDD rigs (25 ton and smaller).
• Strong mechanical skills for diagnosing and repairing equipment issues.
• Experience with FTTH and RDOF projects preferred (not required).
• Ability to work outdoors on active construction sites.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and situational awareness.
• Familiarity with OSHA and general construction safety procedures.
