Position Summary
The Quality Control Inspector (QCI) plays a critical role in ensuring that fiber construction projects meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance. The QCI works directly in the field alongside construction crews, reviewing active and completed work to verify that installations conform to company specifications, project blueprints, and customer requirements.
The QCI serves as the eyes and ears of Lambert’s in the field, ensuring accuracy in documentation, adherence to engineering drawings, and proper completion of all phases of construction. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, field inspection experience, and the ability to identify and correct minor installation issues to maintain quality and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
Pre-Drilling Oversight
• Verify crews wear proper PPE (Class 2 vest and required safety gear)
• Confirm advance warning signage placement including side streets
• Ensure utility locates are confirmed prior to drilling
• Verify right-of-way alignment using GIS/prints and communicate to crews
• Measure right-of-way from pavement edge where required
• Confirm proper cone placement around trucks and equipment
• Verify street markings match project prints
• Capture timestamped video/photos before drilling begins
• Confirm crew understands conduit count per shot
• Ensure mats are positioned for sidewalk crossings
• Verify drill grounding and photo documentation
• Inspect drill for hydraulic leaks and verify with foreman
• Confirm spill kit availability on work trucks
• Ensure utilities are properly located along bore path
• Confirm potholes are dug to locate utilities (minimum 2’ each side)
• Send FDH, crew, and street info to supervisor by 9:00 AM
• Confirm school zones and adjust drilling times if necessary

Active Drilling Monitoring
• Verify locator records bore depth every 10 feet
• Ensure bore depth is at least 3 feet where required and documented
• Monitor for hydraulic leaks during drilling
• Confirm HH/FP placement meets project standards
• Document bore rock or heavy vegetation and update drawings
• Complete bore rock reports when applicable
• Document and report utility strikes immediately
• Continuously inspect work zone and crew workflow
• Ensure sidewalks remain clear of dirt or materials
• Verify tarps are used under dirt piles
• Confirm footage accuracy after each drill shot
• Ensure safety step-down protocol followed for depths over 4 feet

Post-Drilling Verification
• Confirm bore depth logs recorded every 10 feet
• Verify locator and inspector footage match
• Ensure bore logs are completed daily
• Confirm HH/FP addresses and numbering documented
• Complete fiber reporting if fiber was pulled
• Capture final site photos and video documentation
• Document and report issues to supervisor or manager
• Verify no hydraulic spills occurred or spill protocol followed
• Ensure no dirt piles remain on site
• Confirm drills removed prior to cut-off times
• Ensure signs and cones removed from roadways
• Verify potholes restored and raked
• Review next day’s job with foreman
• Attend team call at 4:00 PM
• Complete end-of-shift reporting and drawing updates
Any concerns or issues observed must be reported to the supervisor immediately.

Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
• High school diploma or GED required
• Associate degree or technical certification in Telecommunications, Construction Management, or related field preferred
• Minimum 1 year experience in fiber optic construction, utility inspection, or quality control
• Working knowledge of underground construction methods (bore, trench, missile, conduit placement)
• Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, maps, and engineering drawings
• Familiarity with Bluebeam, CORE, or similar documentation platforms

Technical Skills
• Understanding of fiber optic installation standards, conduit systems, and OSP (Outside Plant) practices
• Ability to measure, verify, and record depths, pipe sizes, and route distances
• Proficiency in digital reporting tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and photo documentation
• Strong attention to detail with ability to identify non-conformities and recommend corrective action
